Interpreting chassis number - LETS HELP EACH OTHER

Even without looking at chassis number we can check month of  manufacture

All cars which are newly shipped from factory have a stick on front windshild or on back glass,

they will be numbered like B16, E4,A2 like that in big font

 i guess its serial number on the car manufacuted in every month..may this one given in factory it self..its a wild guess

a- stands for january b- for february so on

..if anyone notice this please confirm

i have seen this in tata cars and maruti cars which are laid in yard

9B means feb 2009..may be wrong .i dont know

if one can get two or more cars chassis numbers ,one  can confirm

or confirm it from the invoice papers

This is wonderful piece of information. It is very very handy to refer the year of manufacture for a car, especially when you buy second hand car.

I have seen three indica vista Qjet with three diff chassis numbers

611452 AQZP xxxxx -> this is a Jan 2009 vehicle

611452 CQZP xxxxx -> this is a March 2009 vehicle

611452 9PD xxxxx -> i assume this should be April 2009 vehicle

Can we decode more information from engine number

eg. 100A2000-0019246

we cant decode from engine number as per my knowledge

so Vista from april has different coding of chassis number

Just got it confirmed that from Apr onward the chassis number is something like this

MAT 611452 9PD XXXXX

where

MAT - stands for Maharashtra

9 - YoM (2009)

P - Pune plant

D - MoM (April)

When I had gone for booking my vista tdi i saw a chasis number as 9DE

If E is may and 9 is 2009 what location is 'D'?

Are we getting this right? pls advise ?
