WagonR is a very good car.  It lacks road-grip - you will not feel very confident as in i10 - especially at highspeeds.  i10, like Santro, runs planted to the roads.

WagonR is a little more prone to highspeed accidents, therefore (like tall cars normally are).

Thanks Pankaj

I dont drive at high speeds, nevertheless, your point is valid and well taken. WR definitely has got a high Centre of Gravity, which could b dangerous at times(relatively).

Nobody has spoken about after sales service. i read some nasty reviews, on Hyundai's ASS. How does that compare with Maruti and should that b a criteria for making a choice?

Pankaj, ur name appears as the Moderator. Wonder what that means. i m brand new to this forum.

Thanks a lot folks, all of you have been most helpful.

Have a look at this (forum moderator). Binoy Thomos (post #2) & myself are the moderators. Banwari is the Administrator-cum-moderator (from CarWale).

As stated before (post #3), Maruti scores ahead of Hyundai on maintenance/service cost & network.  Hyundai is 2nd best - quite competitive & has no issues.  These aspects should not be the criteria for deciding between the two.

Edit: 1st para (in italic) edited subsequently.

hi Sanat,

My requirements were pretty much the same as yours, mainly VFM and fuel economy...in my case I also had the requirement for easy ingress and egress due to my height...and also lots of room within the car coz am expecting a baby and the extra room will help...also a car which aids in quick city driving....long trips once or twice a year so that was not much of a factor for me...

I would recommend the i10 for you if your driving distances are not much everyday. In my case I need to commute 50 KMs per day so when I calculated the overall cost of ownership, the wagon r duo trumped all else and came very close to diesel economy without of course the maintenance issues (diesel maintenance is not an issue in latest engines)...plus I wanted to go in for a proven model on Indian roads...but again this not to discredit the i10, it doesnt have any major flaw to it until now given the review comments...

I have a LPG station right next to my place here in Chennai so everythign about wagon r duo was perfect in my case so went ahead for it...Of course I do hate the fact that I cant get the ABS and airbags which feature in Vxi model...for the duo there is no Vxi...Am just narrating my requirements and experiences coz they sound very similar to yours...hope they were of some help....

Bottom Line: As suggested above in this thread, TD both cars with ur family and decide on the perfect one...

Thaanks Yogendran

Coming from a man who is an owner of the WagorR, i guess that pretty much seals it. However as per advise in this forum i am going to test drive both cars.

Sanat, here are a few tips (in another thread) on how to test-drive (my opinion) - go through the discussions from post #29 onwards (till post 36) - it will surely help.

Hi everyone

Firstly, my grateful thanks to all of u here, who spared their valuable times to give me advise. I went for a TD of i10 and WR today.

Here is what i think. I drove at not more than 100k on the HW as also in the city. i dont drive and dont intend to drive any car that i own or will own beyond that speed even on an expressway. 'Speed thrills but Kills'

I10

Pros: beatiful compact car, good interiors, excellent driving comfort, good AC, pwr steering wonderful turning radius. better pick up than WR.

Cons: Bit cramped, small boot space(compared to the other car) less leg room for rear passengers.

WR

Pros : Spacious and airy, good interiors, trays under the glove compartment and instrument panel, useful for small odds and ends, ABS in Vxi(not there in Era), good leg room for rear passengers, Large boot and everything else i found to be as good if not better than i10.

Cons : Higher CG, bigger turning radius,

So, here is what i thought. WR gave me a feeling of spaciousness well in excess of many or most sedans. it costs about 30k less(not a small chunk of change), comes from the stable of MS, they currently have a cash back offer of bout 30k while i10 is only giving free insurnace and free music sys(worth bout 7k)

So my head tells me that WR is currently giving better VFM, my heart is dithering esp in light of the advise on this fourm. i know its ulrimately my decision.

Still i would value all your comments on my experience.

Thanks a ton.

30k discount? Is that the May discount amount? I got only 20 K (april amount)? I got 2,500 as corporate discount. Did you ask about corporate discount?

One more thing you have to keep in mind about Wagon R is that MS is in the process of or has already introduced new models...but dealer tells me that Wagon R currently outsell Estillos..it seems that the Estillo was expected to outsell Wagon R....I am not sure hw long MS will continue the Wagon R model but given their sheer numbers there will not be spare parts issues for many years to come, that I am sure of!

Also did you check out the duo? If you are pretty sure of the petrol only wagon r then go in for the vxi. Its pretty much fully loaded, you will only need to get the ICE done...

25K is current discount, likely to get to 30k next month. even 25 k is not bad. the dealer told me that the Duo would b economical only if i was to drive bout 60 km a day. so not plg to go for it and Vxi is not avail in Duo.

What is ICE?
