Yesterday, it started with the same problem again - power loss - had to use 2'nd gear to move in 20-30km/hr and the vehicle was making noise - dug-dug dug ...

So i parked vehicle on the side of the road, with the engine on and keeping in neutral - raised the accelerator for 1-2 mins thinking that might clear any carbon etc - like i used to do with my bike.. and then there was this plastic burning smell ...

but guess what- it was back to normal after that - and even today it was smooth with full of power..

Interesting. In general, it is bad for your engine to race it in neutral, so don't do this too frequently.

1. My first suspect is the petrol you were using -- could have been adulterated or contaminated (e.g. with water). Did you fill up petrol before you got back your power?

2. Maybe there was some blockage in your exhaust pipe which got cleared when you raced your car?

3. Could be fuel pump problem. Fuel pump could be bad, or it may malfunction with bad petrol. Was your fuel tank level very low when you got the problem?

4. Could be problem in ECU (the computer that controls your engine) or the sensors.

Hi-I had a ford ikon before and was having same issue of sudden loss of power and he car was at similar mileage stage around 55000 kms.

I had a complete check up in ford and they changed the fuel pipes and cleaned complete fuel system including fuel injectors. After that this issue was resolved.Hope u have some issue of fuel delivery sustem ,it may be fuel pipes etc and hope the pressing of accelerator  has not cleared the problem temporarily.

If car is operated at low fuel level for some period of time, moisture could condense in the fuel tank and cause power loss. The "dug dug dug" mentioned by IKON FLAIR might be that of the engine misfiring. Or the fuel itself could have been contaminated/adulterated, as I had mentioned earlier.

Hello Srinivasan
1. My first suspect is the petrol you were using -- could have been adulterated or contaminated (e.g. with water). Did you fill up petrol before you got back your power?
I dont think the problem would be petrol since I refil every friday for 12 liters...

2. Maybe there was some blockage in your exhaust pipe which got cleared when you raced your car?

3. Could be fuel pump problem. Fuel pump could be bad, or it may malfunction with bad petrol. Was your fuel tank level very low when you got the problem?

I usually get the petrol when fuel is low - say below quarter mark - and usually every friday.

4. Could be problem in ECU (the computer that controls your engine) or the sensors.

Yes, The scanning guy said - 2 sensors were getting bad input:

MAP sensor - High input

Camshaft sensor - low input

So he did clear the inputs and that might have solved the problem - but that took 2 days to work..

Priyadarshi, - yes this week Im planning to take it to the same scanning guy who will clean the fuel injecotrs, etc and will see if that helps.

Hi IKON FLAIR. Allowing petrol level to go below quarter tank on a routine basis is not advisable for several reasons. Fuel pump will get strained, moisture from the air in the petrol tank could get condensed causing fuel contamination and rusting of fuel tank, and the fuel filter could get blocked by the debris at the bottom or your fuel tank (causing low fuel flow and overheating of fuel pump). Keep petrol level at least above quarter tank and preferably at least half-tank.

For the ECU to take a couple of days to normalize (after errors are cleared) could be normal, as serveral start-stop cycles may be required. But it is important to analyze what caused the sensors to give an error condition. If the cause is genuine and will occur again, then you will get the same problem again.

Finally the car is Fixed. Thanks to all you guys for giving your opinions.

days back I took the car for another round of HISCAN and there was no fault in the sensors and it was not a sensor problem. I got the fuel injectors cleaned and that didnt help either, finally tried a new ignition coil - and WHAM!!! - there it was - roaring again!

So in the end I had to change the ignition coil to get it back on track, but happy to have gone through this cycle - which gave me an insight of the troubles!

The injectors were cleaned at - Rs. 1200/-

Ignition coil - Rs. 1400 (not the original, but supposed to be a good one)

HISCAN - Rs.730/-

Chao

regualar maintenence checks and servicing is the key to maintaining your car. knowing how to drive, i.e. shift gears at the right time, etc is another skill. one of the test drives showed the ikon exceed 35kmpl on the highway, due to the driving style   service your cars regularly and im sure it will make your life easier.
