Right you are. The tail ligts have only been made longer, but that's not enought to differentiate. At a glance it's hard to differentiate a Vista and an Indica from the rear.

Guys, you like it or not, Indica sells/sold more than Swift (before/after Ritz launch). That will of course include the Indica V2. But lately I'm not seeing much deliveries of V2. So, until someone points out the exact split of V2 and Vista, I call Indica a winner over Swift. Personally also, I would prefer the Vista over Swift.

In my hometown, Indica Vista and Swift are neck to neck.  But 95% of the Vista's are Taxies and 100% of swifts are non taxies....  There is the difference.

Good. That means, even taxi owners have upgraded from V2 to Vista. I hope they are the multijet ones. Similarly, I'm praying that the smoking autos will be replaced by Nano Having said that I'm yet to see Vista cabs in Bangalore. May be they find the Logan or Indigo more attractive because of the luggage space for the Indian travellers.

Anyways, who would want to buy a Swift for a taxi? Not at all a worthy car in terms of value proposition and comforts, a multijet nonetheless. Self owners will however have reasons to buy a Swift over Vista or Punto over Swift, etc.

"Taxi" tag remains and will remian the biggest positive factor for Indica sales and biggest negative factor for individual preference.

Just comparing numbers, therefore, is not a correct way of judging the competitiveness of the two cars vis-a-vis one another.

From purely individual perspective, Swift was a hands donw winner over old Indica. But yes, Vista is giving it some competition to it right now. However, when we would start seeing vista cabs, then the story will again change, as said above both positively and negatively.

Fact is that Tatas wont mind the taxi tab untill it is limited only to Indica/Indigo. The biggest challenge for them would be when they start exploring higher segments. Right now I dont think they are considering that route. They may well leave it for Fiat to cater to higher segments in future.

This is what we were told - that the Vista is not being sold for yellow-board, the old Indica is being retained primarily for the taxi market.

Even I had seen a couple of Vista TDI taxis with KL registration at Coimbatore. The dealers are refusing to register vista as taxi, but I guess it can be registered as a taxi, if the registration process is dircetly done by the owner.

If I'm right the RTOs does not restrict any car to be a taxi.

I have also seen couple of Vista Taxis. However I need to accept a fact that there are not many.
