So the "engine revving sound" was actually the grinding noise of gears refusing to engage? I assume that Dilip meant that the mechanic could not engage the gears when the engine was on, but was able to do so with engine off. Looks like a problem with the synchromesh. Good that the gearbox is being changed under warranty. Is this the Kappa i10? I did hear about gearbox problems in the early versions of the 1.1 i10 which were supposedly sorted out and Hyundai apparently recalled a batch of i10's and replaced the gearbox.
This is indeed surprising and not expected from Hyundai. My nine-year old Santro still has butter-smooth gear shift at 96500 kms, except that the reverse gear baulks at times.
