Hi,

I have one doubt,if I am bringing my bike in Pune from Haryana for just 5 months,so do I need a NOC in this scenario?

Do I need to pay tax?

NOC is not required.  I think for a usage not exceeding 3 months, tax is not payable.

For such short periods, people somehow 'manage' - else, it would mean paying life-time tax & seeking refund on relocating back.

Hi Pankaj,

I have pne more query......I f I buy a used bike from Mumbai....I ahve few doubts:

1.What documents should I take from the vehicle owner and how to verify if the vehicle is his own and not indulged in any case or loan payment.

2.Can I transfer the bike on my name in Pune if the documents are of Mumbai.

Check the registration / RC Book for details of the bike, the owner & his address etc.  If it has bank clause/lien endorsed in the RC Book / RTO records, it is hypothecated to bank.  In that case, the seller will have to liquidate the loan & produce an NOC from the Bank in favour of RTO - so as to cancel the endorsement/lien.  Don't buy till then, as the bike cannot be sold / transferred in your name until then.

If nothing of the sort or any restriction is there, get a TTO/transfer form duly signed by the seller in favour of you along with a similar transfer form for transferring the insurance policy in your name.  Get the transfers effected immediately in the RTO & Insurance company - concurrently within 14 days.

Once the bike & the insurance policy is transferred in your name (Mumbai RTO), seek for an NOC in favour of Pune RTO.  For the purpose, you will have to produce NOC from local Police Deptt / LCB, RC Book, Insurance Policy, PUC, residential address/proof of Pune, purpose of relocation / employer's certificate of transfer etc. & fill-up/submit the requisite forms.  Based on the NOC issued by Mumbai, you can re-register your car in Pune.  Only re-registration fee will be payable. The life-time tax paid in Mumbai will stand valid in entire Maharashtra.

Normally people do not get vehicles re-registered in the same state on relocation from one city to another.  However, as per rules, it is required but non-compliance thereof seldom invites any problem/complication. But it is prudent to get it registered especially if relocation is for a longer tenure.

@Kapil - welcome to carwale.

Pankaj has already answered part of your query in post number 2. Please go through it.

For the remaining formalitites it is better to catch a local agent who might get it done on some nominal charges.
