Hi,

I have been searching for a right car for me for last few days. I am finally left with two choices-

i) Hyundai Getz 1.3 GLX - 5.4 lacs

ii) Skoda Fabia 1.2 Petrol - 6.18 lacs

I personally liked Fabia a lot for the bulid quality and driving pleasure, but have been discouraged by so many people mentioning the bad service and too costly spare parts of Fabia. I need someone's honest suggetion and guidance, Would be a great help. This is my first car, so dont want to comprmise with the quality.

Fabia is known for its class, build-quality & durability.  Like-wise, it's known for high maintenance cost & not so good service support.

Performance of Getz too is good.  Service & maintenance cost is quite competitive & the support network is very wide - after Maruti & Tata.

Hi Kumar, Warm Welcome to CarWale,

Please Google with key words like Skoda Service Complaints and your self will see so many pathetic service experiences in India. With the launch of i-10 & i-20, there is chance of Getz getting phased out slowly. So Why don't you please reconsider your choices with i-20 or Swift or Vista Quadrajet.

Pankaj and Venugopalan, Thank you both for the reply and suggestion, i20 ASTA price is 6.7 lacs in Bangalore, I do not like the design of swift, Quadrajet, I'll take a test drive this weekend. Do you have any idea if Skoda launched its spares manufacturing centre in India?

You can include I20 in your range at that price.Getz is old and consumes more petrol. But Getz is also the peppiest in the list.Fabia and I20 are slower cars

Thanks Nipun, As Venu suggested i searched for the Skoda complaints for services in google, There are a number of complains for spare part unavailibilty, bat service etc. As the price of i20 is 1.3 lacs mor than getz 1.3, so i am thinking a little mileage will not be a problem. And do you have any idea, how long i can get the service for getz, if its phased out?

Getz may not be phased out in a hurry and  even if that be so servicing in case of Hyundai will not be problem

There are rumours on Getz being phased out and it is supported by the heavy discounts offered on the car.

However, that wont be much of a problem on the service side.

i20 is priced near Fabia, so I guess there wont be any budget problems there. The engine is insufficient for the car, same as in the case of Fabia. It looks good, and is nice.

Do take a TD of all the cars (with family). If possible make it an extended TD.

As Ami & Nipun mentioned, service of Getz will not be a problem, even if phased out. But resale value will be badly affected. If you plan to keep Getz for long period (say above 5 years), that will not be of significant importance.

But it's always better to avoid a car - though good - that is likely to be phased out & is not very successful (for whatsoever reason).  And especially when there are other options (equally good & better).
