I wanted to buy a long (saloon car). I like that car from my childhood e.g.accent, ford ikon. But I heard that some small cars having more space for passenger then the long (saloon) car. Is it true?

What do you suggest me to buy a saloon car in low budget or buy good hatchback car?

Good passenger space for 5 people is also my requirement.

I stay in Bangalore. People say hatchback car are better for Bangalore traffic.

Suggest me…

Thanks in advance

-Rakesh

Most of the hatch's have a cramped interiors Eg Swift and A-star(back seat is pathetic), less legroom at both front and back. Indica Vista and Skoda are good in this respect.

One thing that I noticed as a disadvantage in a hatch is that you can keep only 1 luggage in the boot if 3 or 4 people are travelling. In case you travel a lot in your car, better to take a saloon.

Also, I drive a saloon in Bangalore for last 3 months. Prior to that I drove a Maruti for 5 yrs. Did not find much of a difference. You get used to it in a couple of days. Parallel parking is the only thing I found slightly difficult. But i have reverse parking sensors that makes it easier.

Welcome to CarWale!

For a city like B'lore a hatchback would be much better. Do fix a max budget and then look around. Sedans in the 5lac range are not many(Indigo/accent/ikon and dzire)-you would be better off with a mid range or high end hatchback for that money.

Hi Rakesh, Warm Welcome to CarWale.

In your budget, you will get few entry level sedans like Indigo CS/Ford Ikon/Accent. But you will get comparitively less features. Ford Ikon & Accent are not current models. If you can extend your budget, then you can get some good sedans like Dzire, Fiesta. But if you consider comfortabe hatch back like Vista Safire or i-10, then you will get fully loaded car with maximum features much less than your budget. If you want truly 5 seater & comfortable hatchback within 5 Lacs, then Vista & U-VA Aveo are good options. They have decent luggage space also (2 medium size bags). i-10 is also a very good option buy you need to compromise little bit on space.

@Sarbajit, I have not included Getz, becasue I read in some other thread, it is getting discontinued. Getz Prime is a good car but I think it is not sold much because of high price & low FE of petrol version. Please check with your dealer what they are offering (getz Prime) is 2009 model. I feel with the introduction of i-10 & i-20, Getz will not have much of attraction to buyers.

The Getz 1.1 would be a choice in such circumstances. Pricing is attractive too. (1.3 l version shall show reduction in fuel efficiency, but pricing is ok). It doesnt seem to be discontinued as seen from the heirarchy 'Santro-i10-Getz-i20-Accent-Verna-Tucson'. If one look for a car with reasonable features (space, style (depends on ones view), comfort, controls) and doesn't plan for the racing sport then Getz 1.1 will be a good buy.

Check the max loan you can take. Take the best car possible. A car is something that will remain with your for 5 years. So it is mandatory that you take a car that you like 100%.
