Hi,

I have just bought a new Alto Lxi.. and i want to replace the existing tyres and rims with new set of alloy wheels... in one of the posts here in the site, moderator suggested that one should upgrade to 13" tyres as there is very less choice in 12" alloys.. So that means the tyre will be bigger in circumference... and i think it will affect the readings of speedometer as per each rotation.. the distance covered would be more...

Will the dealer recalibrate the speedometer.. or some tyre with wall width less than the existing one would do the job... ??

or can anyone suggest me the exact specifications of the tyres with alloys.. so that it may not affect the reading of speedometer..??

Increasing the rim size will automatically curtain the sidewall size of the replacement tyre-to keep the overall diameter of the 12" rim+tyre same/similar to the 13"rim plus tyre.

stock specs are 145/80/12 on a 4J rim

Ideal upsize would be

155/65/13 this can be mounted on a 4.5J alloy

(orthe wagon R's rim which also come in the same size, ie 13" and 4.5J width).

Using the above mentioned size there wont be any difference to the speedo so there is no need for correction.

The 165/65/13 is also possible.

The earlier size was recommended as you were concerned about speedo error(which will be more with the 165 section tyre).

4.5 is the width of the alloy/rim in inches(this is the minimum size need to mount the wider tyres under consideration.

hmm.. so you mean that for 165/65/13 tyre.. speedometer will need to be recalibrated..??

if yes ?? Can the dealer for alloy wheels and tyres be able to do that??

or do i need to get it done from the agency of maruti...??

and one thing more..if i choose to fit the tyre of width 165 , there are two varieties under 13" in bridgestone... those are

165/65R13 77T

and

165/60R13 73H

but on the website for each tyre size there are suitable models given on the right side.. but for both of these size.. alto is not under the list..

here is the link of one of the tyres

http://www.bridgestone.co.in/tyre/tyreselector/bysize/bysize-pattern.asp?size_id=5E5C

can we use this tyre for alto...?

Thanks
Amrinder

The speedo cannot be recalibrated(practically)

-the speedo error should be accepted.

The Alto is not mentioned as the size is non standard for the Alto, thats all.

'T' rated tyres will be more than enough, the H rated tyre(73H) is overkill/not VFM for the Alto.

Actually the Alto will need only S rated radials. Look at other brands also.
