Definitely, yes.

Switching to CNG will save you Rs 2 - 3 per kilometre of running. Look at your monthly running and calculate your running period. Besides the disadvantages listed above also consider the following:

(a) Loss of boot space. You will find it difficult to fit in anything except 2-3 bottles.

(b) Accessibility to the spare tyre and jack becomes a pain. In most cases, you will have to fold the rear seat and pull out the spare tyre from the rear door.

(c) High temperatures in the engine bay cause frequent topping of liquids and other lubricants. I got to know the various types of oils used only after fitting CNG. Coolants, engine oil, steering pump oil, brake oil, etc. all will need to be frequently topped up.

(d) Most people, being image conscious, won't like to line up at the bunk with the taxi and rickshaws. With guests and family members, you may still prefer to drive on petrol. Converting to CNG is a wasteful expenditure in this case.

(e) Loss of pickup is a given. You will have to relearn all the gear ratios.

Please consider all the above before moving to CNG.

Hello Anandchakrapani,

Thanks for your feedback on my clarifications.

Rgds,

Rangan

hi all,

i am thinking of buying i10 1.2 magna cng....please let me know your views on it.

questions:

is cng successful in i10 any problems?

is it gud comparable to wagon-r? out of these two which should i prefer?

i10 would cost me around 60-70k extra as compared to wagon-r but m ready to spend extra because i like i10's looks and more power.

but if there is any problem with i10 cng then i might stick to wagon-r only.

Please reply....

Dear Ahuja,

yes, there is compatibility problem with CNG in i10, better stick to Wagon-R or Santro if you want company fitted CNG which performs well in the car.  Out of this i own a Santro CNG which is without any complaints in CNG, but if you want more fuel efficiency and factory fitted one, then go for Wagon-R.  Santro, i10 and Accent are company fitted not factory fitted, means, Hyundai retrofits CNG in their petrol models of Santro, i10 and Accent in their own authorised centres--but the car is originally made as a petrol one. Santro and Accent are successful in CNG, but i10 is not that much.

I've heard that Wagon-R has reduced the number of cylinders and made it even more fuel efficient in CNG, power and pick up would be little lesser compared to i10, but it is without any problems in CNG. Wagon-R CNG would give better fuel efficiency than Santro CNG.

I had this first hand feedback from several Hyundai workshops and CNG fitment centres that i10 has some problems with CNG.

if you like i10 much, then opt for petrol one, it is wonderful in petrol, even i was in your position when i opted for Santro CNG instead of i10 petrol, even now i would love to have an i10 petrol, its pick up and performance is very good.  however, maintaining a petrol car is very difficult for me at this price now.
