Hello,

I own a Honda Accord v6 AT (2007) and my wife owns a Honda Civic AT (2006).

We both are wanting to upgrade our cars, and as usual are confused, as to what to you.

This is what one wants:

- Fuel Economy in times of Recession ... which means maybe we go in for Diesel cars, but not sure.

- Automatic Transmission

- One of the cars should be 6 seater, and 4 wheel drive, for outings.

I am sure I would get my solution here, since even last time when we both upgraded from a Hyundai Accent and Sonata, to the Honda Civic and Accord, we went by the suggestion of Banwari.

Banwari, I shall await your suggestion.

Thanks,

GP

Gurpreet, I'm offering no suggestions,  but clarifying requirements - two queries here -

1. You need FE as well as AT.. Please specify the more important requirement of the two. Generally AT vehicles FE would be a notch below the MT equivalents. The difference shrinks with each generation though..

2. 4WD for the outings car... Do you really undertake rough off-road excursions that would require 4WD? This I ask because 4WD could limit your choice in an otherwise rich set of options.

Krishna,

One is surely not looking at a MT.

As for 4WD, I said that one of the cars can be a 4WD, not both.

Thanks,

One crucial info required is the budget for the two cars.

Binoy,

As mentioned, one has a Civic and an Accord, and one is wanting to upgrade. But surely one is not looking at the Rs. 40 lac bracket.

Thanks,

GP

It would be more productive if you could be more specific/clear about the budget for each of the cars, as the permutations and combinations otherwise are mindboggling!

As far as a Automatic Diesel SUV-the choices are limited-only the Captiva stands out in the said segment.

As far as the sedan is concerned the A4 TDi multitronic and the VW passat DSG are viable contenders.

Binoy,

I think I answered that. I have a Civic which costed around 12 lacs and a Accord which costed around 18 lacs, which I want to upgrade. I am OK to spend about 20 lacs per car, plus-minus, and am flexible.

As for the Captiva, even the last time, 2-3 years back when I upgraded, the other option, which people were waiting for was the Toyota Fortuner. When is the Fortuner, expected in India, if ever ;) If it is expected in a few months, and if that is the right option, one can wait.

The reason I want to upgrade is as below. The Civic is 2+ years old, and need a change. The Accord is the old model, and looks outdated, with the New Model, around.

Thanks,

GP

@ gurpreet,

if u want diesel cars than would suggest u chevy captiva A/T & skoda laura A/T. this both will come in ur budget & are freat cars.

captiva being a suv is very rigid & solid, has 4x4, seats 7 & overall is a great car.

laura is also great on features with a good enigne & very good DSG 6 speed gear box & it has features which are just simply great. it gives good mileage, rides & handles well & is comfortable too.

at present this 2 cars will suit u the most.

if u would like to stretch ur budget over this cars than there is the new skoda superb coming in march or either u can go for the VW passat.

if u would like to wait than there is a new laura coming in june.

fortuner can prove to be a good option too but initially it will not come with a A/T transmisiion & may the 4x4, for these features u may have to wait atleast a year. & fortuner is expected end of this year.

captiva is the best option available at present.

plz do tell us ur usage type for each cars so that we can suggest u petrol or a diesel?

Deepam,

From a Honda, to a Skoda ;) No way, Man !

From a 3000 CC Accord v6 to a 1968 CC Passat also somehow does not make sense. Ya, the Passat could be an upgrade for the Civic, if it is more Fuel Economic, as compared to the Civic.

As for the usage, one car is driven very less, and the other one does about 2,000 to 3,000 kms. in a month.

Thanks,

GP

if one car has less amount of running than would suggest that go for one petrol car which is a sedan & go for a suv which is diesel.

in petrol u can go for the corolla altis if u want a same segment car as civic than or else can go for the new accord as now accord also comes with the 3,6ltr v6 enigne whoch was recently launched.

u are comparing the engine displacement (cc) which is not the case at all.

all cars have different engine & power plants & passat being a diesel & accord being a petrol u cant compare.

passat & laura have adequate power & both of them zooms when u press the throttle.

have a look at it, take a test drive & than see. these cars will be more fuel efficient too compared to accord.

& if u want a petrol suv & a diesel sedan than go for the mitsubishi outlander which is a great car to own with great features.

if u want u can aso join me on yahoo messenger- deepam_amin@yahoo.com
