... I have seen some very good lady drivers ..

Yes, me too. I have seen few ladies/girls driving cars like BMW Q7, Tata Safari, Hondi CRV on Pune-Mumbai expressway faster than me ( I was at 140 kmph)

... as well as stupid male drivers.

And I have seen few male drivers not able to park their cars like Altos and 800s in big parking lots...they take atleast 5-10 mins and atleast 10 times to turn the cars in parking lots and still they end up parking the car diagonally rather than straight..hence blocking other cars to be parking in proper way

Well, these examples were not to criticize anyone but just to highlight that there is nothing called perfection AND the quality of caliber is not dependent on male/female factors. Its just the confidence you have when doing anything/something.

Regarding L sign, in my opinion, apart from legal aspects, you should not put it on your car if you dont have a learner license. If its permanent license, better avoid putting the sign. The very first reason is that a person having a learner license is entitled to have L board on the car ALONG with a instructor. You cannnot drive cars alone with L board. Also, I have observed many times that having L board on the car, people have the feeling that no one would say anything to them and they stick to the right most lane, which is again not a safe practice.

I dont want to discourage anyone, but putting L board makes you more vulnerable to accidents as you feel that others would be cautious and thats the time/instance where you stop being cautious and do a mistake. I have seen many such incidents. However no offences meant to anyone. Its just my suggestion and opinion.

Happy Driving

I had a number of close calls with women riding 2 wheelers and got the perception that woman does not make good driver.

Not that all men are good drivers but, majority of women do tend to be dangerous drivers/riders. This is just a general perception. Of course, there are exceptions.

I have observed that majority of women drivers don't drive frequently, they drive only because they have to ---; hence have less confidence while driving making things difficult for others.

Exceptions is an important factor...It's always there. I also do not carry an opinion that "LADY driver are not good". But we have to more cautious most of the time...Smile

In fact, I had pleasant experience of Passing by, Overtaking, Parallel drive on A'bad-G'Nagar Highway (Two Wagon R, New City, Alto, Honda city old model). Two of which were lady drivers..Wink

Back to thread title,
L board SHOULD BE used while carrying learning license. Driving alone with L sign will invite traffic police attention.

Edit Remark: 2 subsequent posts merged.

You cannot be fined for placing an L board on vehicle and possessing a valid DL. There is no law prohibiting it.

If some ignorant cop questions, just put the lame excuse that your wife/any other relative is using the same vehicle for learning.

Dear All,

Thanks for the prompt reply. However, my queries still has not got answered.

Dear Mr. Pankaj, I had gone thro the earlier thread which asked for whether L boards can be affixed. My issue was, at the rear side, where exactly shud I be fixing?? Is it on to my right side or the left side of the vehicle with ref to the drivers position?? Are there any laws which prescribe a particular location only??

Secondly, is radium sticker an issue with the authorities?? Wud I be penalised for using the same?? I personally feel it shud not be an issue as it in no ways blocks the vision of any oncoming driver. Just a stupid question..

The other latest problem wat I am facing is in my apartment where the residents have started creating an issue with the reverse horn. Is there any way to reduce the volume of that or can I have a switch arrangement wherein I can put it on/off depending on the situations?? If such a switch exists, is that available as a Hyundia genuine accessory or shud i take refuge in the grey market? How much it wud probably cost??

Thanks and regards.

Prashanth

You will get varieties of reverse horns (all types) in open market & will be cheaper too - while the dealer will just have a couple of those.  No offence meant, reverse horns do sound uncomfortable to neighbours. If possible, please avoid it - it's not required as such.

Regarding the L Board... on the front glass it's supposed to be on the left side (it will otherwise hamper driver's view) & on rear glass I think on the right side.  Radium in fact will help (nights).

I can give my opinion about reverse horn.

Reverse horn is useful in some ways and irritating on others. It creates lot of nuisance in residential colonies but on the other hand is a real boon while reversing in busy markets. The cars with remote locking system have option of switching of the reverse horn by opening the car in silent mode. Even otherwise one can easily switch off reverse horn by adding a toggle switch – This can be done in any Hyundai service centre.

Regarding the question on whether or not to put the L sign on cars, I am of the opinion that once you have really stopped "learning" you should take it off. By learning I mean the initial few days when you did not know how to drive at all. In this case, I think the drivers know how to drive, its just that they do not have enough kms behind the wheels to be very confident. In such a scenario I would advice agianst putting a L sign. Unless of course, If some one in the family is actually learning how to drive.

Couple of reasons have been explained earlier in this thread (1. element of complacency, and 2. highway driving) Third is that God foorbid, if you happen to meet with any accident, peole would tend to blame you stating that he/she did not know how to drive yet took his or her car on the road.

Better drive slow in begining. Try to drive as much as possible on weekend/other holidays. The more you drive the more confident you would be. Till the time you are not confident of driving safely, it is better to take some one along. Even if he/she is not a driver, at least they will tell you if you can hit something from the left side.

Do all the above things, but don't put L signs; they do not help. Please understand that if we have certain rules or Laws, they are framed so for some reason. Unless you are lawyer, please dont try to find a way around the laws.

By the way MODS: can we change the title of this thread to "L board - Silly but very important question"

This is not a silly question at all. In fact, while driving there is nothing called silly. Majority of accidents, if not all, happen because one or both the drivers involved make some "silly" mistakes on road.

No, it's not a silly question - very important it is.

Thread is since renamed. Thanks Himanshu for pointing out.
