Hi All,

My bro is using Xeta GLG (1.4) model Dec. 2006 and running is over 46000 kms. As running is too much its heavy on pocket (fuel expense) so I would like to know about the CNG kit for Xeta. I already asked a user and he told me that his Xeta is having problem with the CNG kit and problem is Heating. He told me all the time you will see the temp needle around Red Mark. He also added that somebody told him that Xeta's engine is not made for CNG conversion (I dont believe this though) But I would like to know about this conversion.

Also what about LPG kit?

As I too understand, CNG has not been very success with Xeta (for whatsoever reasons). Even the Xeta CNG introduced by the Company subsequently (CNG retrofitment tie-up with some Company) did not do well.  Notwithstanding this, CNG retrofitment in Xeta is quite popular in Surat & around - probably because CNG is very popular there & Xeta otherwise being very spacious/comfortable small segment car.

Not only on CNG, Xeta even otherwise has that overheating problem - especially the older models.

Regarding LPG... running cost will not be as cheap as CNG but the power loss will be felt less - 10-15% against 20-25% on CNG.  The power loss (LPG/CNG) however, differs depending upon Car, Kit, Retrofitment/workmanship quality, Maintenance etc.

Go for original Italian Kit - RTO approved (approvals are car/model specific).  LPG Kit may cost in the range of 18-22K while CNG 35-45K.

Hope Vidhur is able to post further/finer details (I only have a general know-how).

Thanks again for the info.

1. thee is no cng at lucknow

2. many xeta owners have serious problems with both lpg and cng. some even had their ecms blown off. only cars fit by thorough professionals are successful. wonder if such a professional is avalaible at lucknow. no such problems with indica though.

@Vidhur, are you sure that Lucknow doesn't have CNG?

I'm enquiring because Rajiv has stated having enquired with a CNG-user (quoted below) - or may be the user is outside Lucknow ???

CNG is available in Lucknow though RTO is giving permit for commercial vehicles only. I heard very soon they will allow permit for everyone.

People are using CNG here like before people were using even LPG without permit. In checking traffic guy can stop anyone and book anyoneLaughing. I met with that guy in First choice, I went there with my cousin for check-up of Scorpio. Infact, that guy was there to sell his Xeta with CNG kit. He told me that he is facing problem.. Overheating!

Post edited to remove last para / off-track mention of problem faced by Scorpio

If desired, the Scorpio problem may be posted in some relevant thread or a new thread may be created.

Hi All,

I would like to share my view points on my XETA GVS Dec 2006,I was using it on petrol until April 2011 when I went for CNG Kit from a local dealer.

Now, Initially there were issues like it used to stop at red lights and every now and then. I was highly dissatisfied with performance .

But after couple of tunings, I finally got it rectified.

Now, CNG works good I drive around 90 km a day and the issues I find is Pickup which is not good at start and secondly heat-Car gets a lot of heat within 5kms of start but I am not sure if its due to CNG or my car is old now

But overall, its fine considering car is old now but do remember that you might have to spend around Rs 1000 to 1500 on a monthly basis for maintenance to keep it good.

I too have a Nov 2006 XETA (1.4L engine). Am from Bangalore

A whole lot of confusion is there on LPG. According to Pankaj, CNG is Ok for this engine. Bangalore has not got CNG refilling yet. Some of the mechanics said that it is better to go with a sequencer and the gas is directly injected into the engine and not through the carburetter.

In that case, a kit with asequencer costs 35-40K. Please let me know what it is and how it benefits.

Thanks

I would tell you to go and first check your Engine health by a good mechanic or from TATA Motors itself...As per my experience till now..be it CNG or LPG.....Engine health is a prominent factor.

Also,go for kit from TATA Motors as you will get alot of benefits..I tried to save money myself and regretted later on.
