Hi everyone,

I own a santro 2000 petrol model. It still gives me around 15kmpl.

I want to buy a new car in range 3.5-4L and I shortlisted Getz prime 1.1 , UV-A 1.2 , Indigo. Following are my main concerns, priority wise:

1)Fuel Economy

2)Easy to drive (for an elderly person)

3)Confortable (as daily usage is 50km)

PS: I heard UV-A gives ~9/10kmpl!! I want atleast 15kmpl (city) without AC.

For your usage, Consider a diesel car... i would recommend the swift Vdi(for your bdget), if rear seat space is not an issue...

Decent Rear Space is a must as the car would usually carry 2 tall people in rear.

BTW, what are the reasons for recommending a diesel car?

And if you are suggesting me a diesel, please go ahead in the range of 3.5-4L.

Swift is ruled out. How is Indigo?

Diesel is more advisable in your case, as your monthly run/usage is 1500 kms. Diesel will be more fuel efficient (mileage) & economical (cost of fuel) - the running cost will be almost 50% than that of Petrol's.

In your budget (more or less), you can choose from CS TDi & Vista TDi - have a look at the comparison between the two (2 versions each) - go through the Specifications, Features & All Features.

Vista has more space & comfort than CS & will also return a better mileage (15-17 in city & 19-21 on highway (depending upon the driving conditions & style) - while CS will give 1-2 kms less of mileage.  Interiors & Features too of Vista is better. CS has the advantage of additional boot. Handling/braking of CS is better (Vista is also good - nothing adverse).

Test-drive both the cars (with family) & decide.

@Amit: i10 is too small, even worse than my 10 year old santro!

@Pankaj: I see. Are there any disadvantages of TDi diesel cars? Thanks.

i10 is quite spacious/comfortable - better than many in its segment.

TDi/Diesel... total maintenance cost (spares/repairs included) is 10% more than petrol.  But it is more fuel efficient & economical - running cost is almost 50% of petrol.  Besides, diesel engines have better longevity (stonger/sturdier), and are very refined these days.

Ah, I see.

But in 2000, I chose Santro over Indica just because indica was diesel and was MUCH noisier & vibrating than santro. Will this VISTA TDi will also have similar noise & vibration or does this TDi diesel cars have lesser noise than 2000 indica? How much is noise compared to petrol cars (say i10)?

Diesel cars (any) are no more as noisy as they used to be earlier. They are a little noiser than petrol cars - but it is not an issue, for sure.

There is no engine vibration. The vibration felt on the gears is there in all cars - more in diesel cars.

I suggest, test-drive both the cars & feel the difference yourself.
