Hey everybody,

Can I fix my muffler (free flow exhaust) pipe to my car bumper ?? My mechanic said he can, but this may coz sounds when we drive as the silencer may shake, and it may further vibrate the bumper.

Is there any way to damp the vibration? fixing some kinda rubber washer may be a solution but it will get burned by the heat!!

Whether the heat in the exhaust burn the bumper? Coz alto bumper is made of fiber .

Plzz help, i cant jst try this out coz if this doesnt works, then the hole in the bumper may spoil the luk of the car !!!

I have seen muffler exhaust pipes suspended from the underbody of the car using a clamp and a special link that allows the pipe to move with respect to the underbody. Use a link like that. Look around, you will find those links. (difficult to explain without a picture/sketch, but can't help!)

In NO case allow the mechanic to put a hole in the bumper. That is not professional. Not an accepted practice.

Please do post on the forum your experience of the shiny new gizmos you opted for.

Vinod avoid fixing the exhaust by cutting the bumper. You can do something else. Give a day, I will post the picture of my car's exhaust.

I tried this and I had understeer, I tried that and I had oversteer, at the end of the corner I just ran out of talent!

Krishna,

I have bought Stainless Steel air filter, cold air intake, free flow exhaust with muffler from thvdelhi company and these are the fewthings i noticed..

1) Stainless Steel air filter, hmmm, they claimed its frm DC Sports, but the luks are so local tat i guess its made locally.

2) My mechanic didnt used the free flow exhaust as its mouth was 3" Dia and the outlet from engine is around 1 1/2" Dia. We tried hard to get the rubber flexible hose for fixing it, but didnt. So instead, we made a free flow exhaust in 'Japan Steel' which is non corrosive. That worked fine with the Air filter. Its now fitted in the engine.

One thing i noticed was, when i just push the accelerator and release it, i can hear a sucking sound from the air filter (Maybe sucking air inside??). Almost Sounds like a kissing sound Tongue out !! Is this normal???

3) My mechanic had to struggle hard to fix the muffler as some fittings were non standard and it gave jerking sound when we run the car. Now its OK with no shakes, oh i forgot to tell you, i put the muffler beneath the bumper as it shud luk like, not my crazy idea - to put the muffler by diggin a hole in the bumper!!

Now i will tell about the few things i noticed on ride.

Riding is smoother than what I had before. Pick up hav increased, i donnow to how much extend. Donnow about the mileage too.. and there is a feeling when we ride the car, hearing the sporty sound... we feel like we are riding the race car.

Thats all, hope anyone will put more light into the observations i had with these..

Hey Vinod, why don't you publish the experience after the mods, now that you are using the vehicle after the mods for about 3 weeks...?

Yes krishna.. The cars overall performance have increased.

We can feel the pull when we drive the car in ac. Also, when we fire the engine above 80, the driving is very very smooth that i cannot describe it.

I personally recomend all the car owners to change the air filter and free flow exhaust. I did put muffler to make a spotty sound and the sound is jst great.

One thing to note that, you dont need to buy cold air intake if you have a good workshop near your area. Anybody can make it, but keep in mind that it should be straight as much as possible with smooth surface inside, make in aluminium or SS with larger dia as possible.

Mileage, i havent seen any increase or decrease. Its just as usual.

I had to remove the negative wire of the battery to about 1/2 hour after i fixed my air filter. This is to reset the ECU and to recognize the change I have done.

Overall, I am very satisfied with my gizmos. I was planning to do some more serious modifications, but I am now planning to relocate to Europe. Hence, I am now thinking to sell the car and go.

Donnow wat price i will get in market !!!!! but I am sure, a second hand buyer will never look or add into the gizmos i have fitted in my car!!!....

Hey Vinod, something from your earlier post (#4 above), that remained unanswered - the sound due to new filter -

The 'kissing' sound that you hear when you release throttle after a burst of acceleration is due to the 'pumping action' of the engine - when you have high engine rpm, but are not feeding any fuel, the engine goes through 'empty' cycles of intake-compression-power-exhaust (or more colorfully suck-sqeeze-bang-blow) without any fuel involved (Deceleration fuel cut off feature disables injectors). The cylinder vacuum is very high when it intakes from an intake system with throttle fully closed (like breathing through a (nearly) pinched nose). It then sqeezes this fuel-less air, and then again expands it to emit it through the exhaust way. The intake action produces the sound you hear.

When the air filter resistance is higher, the sound is damped. When it is low (like your new filters) the sucking sound from this action is heard.

There is energy loss in this pumping, and it is higher at lower closed or nearly closed throttle. That is one reason why it is not recommended to drive with very low throttle settings. not very good for FE.
