Rohit, I am looking at alternatives. A few friends work in the business of batteries. I was told rough cost is Rs 18/AH. Ni MH might be a good choice. But for a test I am not too worried on distance. I do want the vehicle to be functional and have a good pickup. I can always upgrade batteries later.

How come this topic does not raise interest in many people. If we do not innovate we are forever doomed to buy the crap that is dished out in the market.

Thank you Binoy,

I was thinking, as a trial project the three wheel bajaj pickup might be even more suitable and easy to do.

Imagine pulling up with a high torque motor and pulling ahead of expensive german car many times more expensive.

these are only 400KGs and tons of space to load the rear with batteries.

What do you think. Omni or Bajaj Three wheel pick up.

kk, Yes you will get more or less run time depending on how you drive. However the main point that I wanted to make was that using standard car batteries might not be the right thing to do primarily because of the (large) additional weight they would add (more weight means more battery power spent during acceleration). If you can get hold of lighter batteries with greater capacity then the results would be much better. These most probably will cost more than ordinary lead-acid batteries.

Any model has to be efficient in fuel consumption. As it is electric based engine it has no exhaust also.

KK-that sounds quite good.

though

-available space(useable passenger) in the three wheeler would be limited so the cost per head might be higher compared to a 5 seater omni.

Hi Rohit, kk and Krishna,

I have read this topic with great interest. I am very keen on an EV, but the Reva is too small for a family of four including two teenagers. The Indica EV is far on the horizon or beyond. In the interim, in the near term I am looking for conversion of my 2001 model Indica V2 to run on electricity rather than diesel. Hence my very keenm interest in kk's experiment and the other bloggers' involkvement and technically educative inputs.kk do let us know how the experiment goes. I am Delhi / Gurgaon based with one toe in Secunderabad.

Vivek

Guys the site has identified me incorrectly as from Bangalore, I'm in Delhi / Gurgaon, positively the NCR.

Vivek, relax.. this is a site programming quirk...

When you go visit CarWale, and check the on-road price of a car at a particular location, the software changes your profile location to that one. It is incorrect. It has been pointed out earlier, and a fix should be in the pipeline, but other than the amusement it offers, there is no real harm.

PS: I am from Noida, and the profile says Gurgaon, due to this bug above. I could have changed it back by checking another on-road-price at my location. Only that I am too lazy to go do that Smile
