It is really a boon to get an email regarding the activity in a subscribed thread. Lately, it also is becoming a tedious job to delete these e-mails, as single mails are sent for each and every word added to the thread. As we are having many good discussions in our forum, many are forced to subscribe to numerous threads, which  explains the problem.

I think sending instant email for each comment should be made optional. Most of the members are not online in this forum round the clock. They check the activities once or twice a day.

It is better to make an option of receiving email for all the activities in a thread in a time based manner, like every 6 hours or 12 hours. So it will be enough to send a single automated mail instead of a dozen or more. Members who need instant email may be given an option if needed, if it is not difficult.

Also welcome would be

(a) inclusion of the body of the new posts since last notification -  helps you avoid visit to the thread, especially if you don't have anything to post.

(b) a facility to respond through mail, as a reply to the notification. This follows up on (a).  I am tentative on this though.

This post stands merged inadvertently (earlier).  The second  post is actually posted by Krishna.  I'm sorry for the error committed - Pankaj Prasad (Mod).

Pankaj, the merged post is not mine. I do not know who has posted it. I think it is better to give credit to the member who has posted the second part as it is his/her personal opinion.

It is a feature of Gmail. No such facility for rediffmail or yahoo.

It's OK Pankaj. Even Mods are prone to mistakes occassionally. Let Krishna clarify.

@Krishna, please clarify - am so sorry.

@Feroz, check your e-mail alert on this thread - it will reveal whether it was Krishna or someone else.  I don't have the alert, as it was new thread to me at that time.

Yes, only in Gmail this facility is there.  But, just to add to what Karan has stated... as you all may be aware, all e-mail alerts of a particular thread come in a 'pack' at any given time - BUT if we happen to open the mails of more than 1 day at a time, we will receive such different packs for different days (same thread/s).

This is the mail I retrieved from trash box. So it was Krishna.

Dear Feroz,

Your subscribed discussion Why e-mail for each post? has just been replied by Krishna.

We thank you for your active participation in CarWale.com Forums.

Warm Regards,
CarWale Team

Iam getting single email for each post instantly. It is not delivered as a pack. I think it is better to give gmail id in Carwale.

I have since mentioned in the first post about the error committed by me & have put a heading that the 2nd post is posted by Krishna (sorry once again).

@Feroz, giving Gmail ID is a better idea - you will soon realise the benefit (discussed before).

Was away practising P&G (visiting Noida Laughing), hence the delay in the post

Pankaj, I'm totally cool about whether it gets clubbed or not. As Feroz points it out for credit, I think I will waive it. The idea is more important than who raises it. So no need to apologize, knowing where your action came from...

(c) Keep notification subscription box unchecked by default

Coming to the improvement suggestions, I have one more now: We should have the notification subscription box unchecked by default so as to not spam the mailboxes of posters. Of course, they should notice it when posting, but the normal mode is noticing it post-facto. I also wondered why each thread I post on gets subscribed, and then noticed the box.

My 2 cents on this:

Krishna,

Most of the forums do have the option (a). Which is quite good.

Option (b) although it sounds good, it would turn out to be venomous. Email can be delayed/within the time you reply by mail the whole context would have changed. So This would be risky.

Option C- I would say it should be subscribed on reply. Otherwise what is the purpose on posting. Even here you can un-subscribe easily or you just have tick out the option on posting.

What else can be done: Use gmail. The best option.

Use filter option in other emails. You may either redirect it to a folder/trash.
