Here the first video shows a normal hatch back or a sedan caught in slippery conditions. Usually Indian hatch back or sedans are 4x2. So i thought for a 4x4 these are not a big issue. But lately I came across this video which proved me wrong....

What could be the reason...? I suppose the tyres could not be the main reason...

This could well be the tyre's. I also suspect the inexperience of the driver!

At the end of the video as the scorpio is nearing the road the driver points it at the road at almost right angles and then fails to even put the front two wheels on the tarmac(also the the driver disregards traffic and also engages reverse which a more experienced person would not have on an incline like that).

One correction: First of almost all sedans and hatchs are 4*2 expect a few like Audi. Secondly, we do not know whether that Scorpio is a 4WD. If it was, it won't have got stuck there.

The driver had no other option than coming back. If it would have tried to accelrate in the forward direction, it would have resulted in nothing but burnig of fuel and spinning of his rear tyres. Even if he managed to touch the front wheels on the tarmac, it still won't have helped as the Scorpio is a RWD, but if it was a 4WD then its a different story.

I tried this and I had understeer, I tried that and I had oversteer, at the end of the corner I just ran out of talent!

@Rachit

-watch the video again-cant you see the front wheels spin by themselves-its so obivious!

This scorpio is 4 x 4!

-someone unable to get the 4 x4 scorpio out of such a situation is either inexperienced or on poor tyres.

Saw the video properly.

If the front wheels are moving, I don't understadn why isn't the car moving. Weird. Its not sand or something else is fishy. Even if tyres are worn out, the Scorpio has a good torque i believe to overcome this.

What is 'fishy' is behind the wheel of the scorpio-LOL

The tyres need not be worn-but might well be that its running 'Tarmac' spec tyres rather than the A/T spec tyres that most scorpios come with.

Moist grass also is a poor surface to gripe-so that might have played an important part(and that we are underestimating the same).

Hi guys,

I found one more video of a 4x4 struggling even in a simple condition. Have a look at this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkQ5yBnS4SU

Was the driver so inexperienced..? Why couldnt the car pull over in two wheels..?

This post is edited to provide link to the webpage.

Notwithstanding the technical aspects & other factors (as discussed herein before), the driving skills do make a difference - as is evident from the video.

Honesty is not a Spare Wheel that you pull out when in trouble. It's a Steering Wheel that keeps you on the right path throughout the life's journey.

From the above discussion can i conclude that for a rookie driver like me, if i wish to buy a safari or scorpio I need not go for the 4x4 spending a lakh extra for it.
