I saw the video of the Range Rover. (couldn't open the other 2 for some reason, but will check them tonight)
Being an off-roader, I would like to add my comments :-
1. Tyres are very very important while off-road.
2. When going off-road, deflate the tyres a bit to have a wider patch which would help in extra traction.
3. Driver Skills are the most important factor in off-roading. A rookie who drives a Range Rover would not reach anywhere. An expert driving a JEEP would reach places.
Simply accelerating while leading no where would have adverse effects on the drivetrain of the vehicle. The idea is to stop, deflate the tyres a bit, use differential locks if the vehicle has them and accelerate gradually.
In many Mahindra Great Escapes, I have seen Scoropios & Boleros clearing worst terrains with their stock highway tyres. The expertise of the Driver is of utmost importance. In the video, The range rover would have cleared the patch easily if it was driven by an expert. Ultimately its upon the driver who handles a car.
May the FOURs be with you - JEEP
