Both the engines in the Linea are under powered for the size of the car.

Of the two the diesel has much more torque and therefore much better driveability(power being similar).

I have TD both ,

I am very happy the way Rajnish has explained & justified his choice for petrol version which i agree with , but for me I found it TOO sluggish & after som time i was bored driving the same, even the milage I foundout from the other customer was about 8 to 8.5 in Mumbai city traffic .. This is certainly my personal opinion.

But Diesel is quite adequatly powered, even for the city & Hihgway, If you have no Budget constraint then Go for Diesel.. gives fantastic milage as well.. It is slightly noisey but then all diesel cars are isnt it??Laughing

HI there.. Have read the entire thread and have gained usefull insights into the topic.. I am also contemplating between the two cars..

The per day driving will be less than 15km and perhaps a 40-50 over the weekend..Also not to forget that the chosen car will have a lady driver

Have yet to take the TDs.

What say??

Hi Pooja, Welcome

Your driving is around 15km per day, just go for Petrol.

But, Go for LINEA.

Dear Pooja,

TD is the best way to feel the cars. I suggest that TD of both City and Linea should be done on the same day to gauge the real driving experience. Regards Rajnish Sharma

Hey Thanks.. I will be taking the TDs soon. Though I have a bais for the NHC but the conviction for Linea is making me seriously evaluate and consider it.

Rajnis, Pooja & others, welcome to CarWale (sorry for belated welcome).

Just a few clarifications (to my understanding)...

  • Dual pricing will not reduce the gap between the prices of Petrol & Diesel - have a look at this post (further discussion, if any, on the subject can be had therein).
  • Total Cost of Ownership involves all aspects during the ownership period - right from the initial cost to resale (maintenance, fuel cost, etc. etc. all included). Linea's cost of ownership will be lower than City's - true - I too feel so.
  • Diesel cars are stronger, strudier & have better longevity, and therefore better resale too. NVH levels of diesel cars are no more as high as it used to be - quite refined now.  Diesel cars have better roll-on acceleration enabling easier overtaking on highways (without shifting to lower gears).  Petrol cars have better power to weight ratio enabling better pick-up/quick getaways through city traffic.
