An overinflated tire is stiff and unyielding and the size of its footprint in contact with the road is reduced. If a vehicle's tires are overinflated by 6 psi, they could be damaged more easily when encountering potholes or debris in the road, as well as experience irregular tread wear. Higher inflated tires cannot isolate road irregularities as well causing the vehicle to ride harsher and transmit more noise into its interior. However, higher inflation pressures reduce rolling resistance slightly and typically provide a slight improvement in steering response and cornering stability. This is why participants who use street tires in autocrosses, track events and road races run higher than normal inflation pressures. That too 3-5 PSI.

If you drive a car at about 80-100 kmph, your tire pressure will further increase and your tire could explode. Or while driving on a very hot day, a similar thing can happen.

I won't encourage such measures, and I completely agree with Sabreesh as well.

I tried this and I had understeer, I tried that and I had oversteer, at the end of the corner I just ran out of talent!

Just called up Honda Helpline for details of OBD connector, let's see to what extent they respond.. Respond they do for sure, but completeness of the answer varies.

The company might help surely-but Honda being Honda will be very vary about its reputation and will not want an end user fiddling with the on-board computers on the car-blotching up the job and then express some reservation about their product.

The connector is for the OBD-guess Honda uses CAN-BUS rather than the OBD-II formats.

I wonder why people are supporting someone who is getting into a dangerous practice by doing something uncouth following some fool in U.S who has bragged about it.

Here are some links which clearly burst the myth that hyperinflation improved fuel efficiency of a car.

Sabareesh,

This discussion can be taken up elsewhere. I am not saving gasoline or money with this endeavor. This is an intellectual quest for me - a hobby if you can call it that, but its a wee bit deeper. I really don't want to discuss tyre inflation anymore. so please please let it go. I beg you!

@Karan, Binoy has spoken! (need I say anymore? Smile)

@Mustang, Binoy: we need to converge on what Honda has.

HONDA QUERY UPDATE:
Some really stonewalling guy from Honda called up. He says a 16 pin connector is available behind the dash, and it is only for Honda to plug its diagnostic tools. No connector details can be given out - phone disconected when tried to prise more info from him.  I luuv this customer friendliness Frown

Dude there is a thin line between an intellectual quest and insanity, I was trying to point of the danger involved in this act.

As far as hobby is concerned, I am an Off-roader myself but with a clear understanding of the line between safety and performance modifications. Nowhere I would urge anyone to compromise on safety on the cost of a performance / efficiency boost.

I am off this thread now, I cannot blindly agree with some stupid & dangerous mods for satisfying someone's quench.

Enjoy your mods and drive safe

Ciao...

UPDATE ON HONDA QUERY:

Another guy called, and asked a feedback about the query. Told him in no uncertain terms that I was not satisfied, and wanted the connector make and pin details... He has promised to escalate. Lets keep our fingers crossed...
