A heads up display (HUD) is a computerized readout displayed on a transparent surface, such as a windshield, which displays information while maintaining the view. Originally developed for utilization in military applications, the heads updisplay has many uses — including flight simulators, automobiles, commercial aircraft and motorcycle helmets. In gaming, many first-person shooters feature HUD displays.

Car windshields are meant for clear visiblity for the driver. Or else why to have a windshield rather close it. Tongue out

It already there in cars like corvette....And others too have it....It just displays numbers on the lower portion of the screan.....Those digits are projected on the screan.

It's used in Tiger attack helicopter and it's stunning in air but not on ground in car. And thats one of the reason ferrari and lamorghini still use traditional ways...Because it gives u the real pleasure of driving.

U like to have traditional analog meter....U don't want to ruin ur screen by the digits on screen...Do u???

It's just for people (yanks) who are made in gentleman laboratories and declare themselves as the gearheads as soon as they pop out of the lab they were made in. They are the ones who make liking cars uncool. And they are the opnes who are into show-off knowing absolutely nothing that how uncool they are and how foolish they make themselves look.

@Sahil

-could not gather much from the post. Is your contention that the HUD's are useless or that people who use the same are 'foolish'?

The HUD is part of most fighter aircraft that predates the 'tiger' chopper.

@Binoy

I wanted to say that even though they are really good in aircraft for all the info. they are not really good for the cars i.e they make driving bit more complicated and mechanical.

The HUD used in fighter plane is different i.e. the method of processing info is different. They use Virtual retinal display combined with the helmet mounted display and HUD. Tiger use Helmet mount display which is a bit closer to the HUD used in cars.

Thats not everything. It's just the tip of iceberg. There are thousands of different things involved in it. It's much much complicated.

It was there in many commercial jets too before it came in Tiger. But again they were the distant cousin.
