Bobin, I dont have any info regarding waiting period for a new Gypsy but if you will opt for old one, I will show some pics of my friends (Auto Parts/Accessory Shop owner) Gypsy. Modified an old one, alloys & power steering too. I will definitely post few pics as soon as possible.

Mileage is good.  10-11 in city & 14-15 on highway.

Hello All, I am planning to buy a Maruti Gypsy and modify it. I will start with two modifications in phaze one. First will be the Suspension System and second will be to power steering. I need inputs and advice from fellow memebers of Carwale.

To begin with..please send me your comments on suspension system. I also work for shock and strut manufacturing, designing company as an executive, so all of your ideas can be tested & tried out with results...with gurantee...also we can get inputs from the real scientists and experts in the field. I am so excited @ this project. So question should start (if I am right...with shocks and struts...the best with comfort and handling.... any thoughts on this? I can avail the design, proto, fabrication, & testing services at some cost (cost will be bore by me)...

Does anyone here has any literatur (design specs for shox or struts of Gypsy?

Your help will be invaluable!

Do reply...

DD

Dear friends !

I read your all your comments on Gypsy on this great site.

My name is Sandeep Kapoor & am an automobile enthusiast from Gurgaon.
I just bought an excellent condition soft top white Maruti Gypsy King 1300 cc (carb version) in excellent engine chassis and body condition from a friend.
All five tyres are absolutely new and batt is new. It has no rusting anywhere on chassis or body and a very well kept car by its first owner who used it for jungle visits to Corbett & Ranthambhor etc with his family. Sold off as he bought a Qualis and an Innova now and was not using this Gypsy for long offroad trips due to his 50+ age and a nagging neck & shoulder pain of spondilysis etc.

I bought it for 1.5 L which I know is a bit high but if you look at the all 5 new Birla Dazzle tyres + new batt and its fitted with an AC as well the cost seems to be ok to me. (Tyres-30000 + batt 2500 + AC 25000 = 57500)

Its genuinely done only 64000 kms.

On my first ride it was a bit rough, I took it to the auto market in Gurgaon and got the following work done :

Oil & filter change 20w50
Air fliter cleaning
Spark plug cleaning
Distributor contact points cleaning
Oil & parts Cost Rs 650 + labour Rs 150
Did not let the mech even touch the carb setting. Carb seemed to be very clean thought still some gunk on jets would be there that I will clean with spray later.

Also I took it to a suspension mechanic and got one leaf removed from each of the rear leaf springs and increased the curvature of the leafs to maintain the height. The ride now is less jerky and a bit softer than before and car doesn't even sway while turning (I was fearing it might sway), have yet to test the long drive on this new suspension setup. Also changed the rear suspension bush kit. Cost  Rs 200 + Labour 400 + time 2 hours.

Am gonna spend another 400 bucks + 2 hours for the front leaf spring bush kit change and oiling etc and get the curvature of front leaf springs increased a bit (but wont remove a leaf from front as it supports the weight of the engine) to make the ride more supple.

There was no rag in the front so bought one for Rs 200 and also bought a new glove box cover costed Rs 100. Also a Maruti Van type 3 Krishna-TOYO right door mirror Rs 200. And Maruti Suzuki emblems Rs 150 etc , one new hella horn set Rs 300.

I have never liked the steering wheel of gypsy so bought an Esteem type 3 steeing wheel with horn press cover for Rs 1150 (fits perfectly in Gypsy)

It has 2 front facing rear bench seats, I plan to remove the rear one as it rattles a lot (and will reduce weight as well)

Total money spent so far is  about rs 2500 and the car looks & handles good so far.

cntd....

contd....
Now my query to you is should I go in for a smaller tyre size as its fitted with big sized tyres and has a bigger side wall height. Current tyre size is 215 x 75 R 15 (Birla Dazzler).

Decreasing the tyre size how low can I go as I want a lower centre of gravity for a stabler ride.

And should I go in for wider track alloy wheels as well if it helps the stability as well ??

I have not liked the original front seats at all. They are as small as maruti 800 or even smaller it seems. I want to fit front seats from an Esteem or a Zen. Is it possible as a direct fit or not ?? I dont like the vinyl covered gray seats that came with the Gypsy, they small awful and the typical vinyl smell reminds me of State Transport Buses (Yuck), I am not sure but it can be the smell of the soft top material as well. But I suspect the seats vinyl for this.  Also I would like to install a tachometer in it. Is it possible ?? (old carb esteem had a tach and my gypsy has the same carb 1.3 engine) , I may borrow a tach from a Maruti Ritz if the wiring circuitary is similar. Do advise me. Awaiting your reply. Thanks in advance
