Hi Pankaj,

I always mark in your post for the mileage. Sorry to say but they feel highly unrealistic.

16/17 in city for TDi ?? Indigo with same engine gives 11-12 kmpl. Verna in city gives 12-13 kmpl.

The average we write here must be calculated keeping in minf that a layman (ordinary) will drive - so that we provide realistic figures to major lot.

Vista TDi will give 10-12 in city with A/c and 15-17 on highway. Quadrajet will be more or less same.

@DevilZ, yes the TDi would fetch a better resale of 15/20K, as mentioned in my post #28.

@Raju, we have discussed this once before also.  Like I had stated then... I always talk about the fuel efficiencies of the cars (3 lac cars to 20/25... lac cars / petrol or diesel).  It may sound unrealistic to some extent for metros & big cities due to traffic conditions - but I always put a qualifying remark that it all depends upon the driving conditions (load/road/taffic/use of AC etc.) and style (speed/change of gears/accelaration etc.).  Besides, like I/we talk of best performance, power, torque etc. etc., I talk of best mileage.

Regarding TDi in particular... I've been using the same engine & am constantly deriving mileage of 16.5 to 17.25 in city & 21-22 on highway (depending upon the driving conditions - style is same).

Pankaj,

You may talk for fuel effeciencies for cars from 3 Lacs to 20/25 Lacs or even upto 3 crores. That is not the point for discussion.

My point is that a person (not experts) driving in normal conditions (say Mumbai/Delhi - actually, most places are crowded) - that mileage should be considered. That benefits all the people seeking the expert opinions - and not the Under Test Conditions (UTC). These UTC are anyway available and the people seeking advice wants the real mileage.

For performance, cars are talked in terms for their best performance - however when people talk for Fuel Effeciency - they talk in practicle terms - and not theoritical - Please leave aside isolated cases.

Here in Mumbai - together with family and friends (we are passionate for knowledge about cars) - in all we may have 50 -60 cars or more.

Swift - 8-9 kmpl

Alto - 11-12 kmpl

Accent 8 kmpl

Swift Diesel - 12-13 kmpl

Palio - 7-8 kmpl

Getz 1.3 - 11 kmpl (Mumbai Vasai - total Highway)

Verna 1.5 CRDI (Diesel) - 12 kmpl

Civic - 7-8 kmpl (Mumbai Traffic)

These are few examples where I immediately can give - others I can compile and reply.

Well, Raju you sound to be a little annoyed - your expressions in the first 2 paras in particular indicate so.

Given the background of your family & friends, their passion, the no. of cars owned and the mileage figures known - you don't need to ask about the mileage figures.

Anyway, I have replied to your query (post #32) in my previous post - it contains my 'understanding' & is stated clearly that the mileage may not stand true for metros/big cities.

You may not agree - fine, nothing wrong if we disagree.

Yes, I am sorry for that.

I just put a point that mileage figures be real - I understand that u get good mileage from your car - however think for the persons (Including me) who come to this forum to get the real figures.

I am very eager to know about the figures for Vista - maybe will take a test drive - (Tank Full - drive 15 kms and again tank full)

Tata people are just below our corporate office - so may ask them - if yes then will definately report the actual figures.

Thanks dear.

It is not because I get good mileage from my car.  Believe me, the mileage figures stated by me (all cars) are realistic - though, as I admit, those would not stand true for big cities / metros.

Besides, I have no reason to quote unrealistic mileage figures of other cars (I don't own them).

Let me clarify, my Office has all types of cars (plenty) & I have test-driven all of them (types) & have also measured mileage of most of them myself - of course my city is neither a metro nor very big.

Anyway! no ill feelings. Cheers Smile

Yeah, one can easily get around 15kmpl in city with the TDi. Mileage depends on Driver & Driving conditions. For example, the best we got from Wagon-r in city with a.c. on is 12.25kmpl though others are getting better mileage than this in other cities. And the same guy got 10.5kmpl from Ikon Flair with a.c. on and latest figures without a.c. (as its winters) is 12.42kmpl.

Fiesta TDCi without a.c. in City 19.21 kmpl and from his new Fiesta Zxi my friend got 22kmpl coz his route is not much busy.

Ikon TDCi without a.c. in city 18.7 kmpl (Car is new and my partner use to change gear after reaching high rpm).

Spark LT: 16.30 kmpl in city without a.c.

Indica Xeta GLG: 14kmpl in city without a.c. (Route in not busy)

Swift Vxi: 14kmpl without a.c. (Highway).

People dont change when you tell them that there is a Better option... They change when they realise that there is No Other Option..

I was pleasantly surprised to see that i10 Sportz version (including others) has a big discount of 30K + 11K (insurance free). The total on-road (mumbai outside octroi) comes to about 4.25. Which every well fits my budget. I have seen good reviews for i10 against other cars but not vista

How would you rate vista safire V/s i10 sportz and Vista TDi v/s sportz (I understand that i10 is petrol and Tdi would be diesel)

Thanks a lot for your comments.

Ok, I found the answer to first part of query in this thread: http://www.carwale.com/forums/ViewThread-5875.html

The vote goes to i10.

For the second comparison, vista Tdi v/s i10 which would be better deal?
