Has anybody done engine mods where they increase the bore of the cylinders? Is it viable, advisable or outright foolish? What all additional changes/things does it entail?

Well, at the very least the effect will be increased power (engine cc, at least) along with higher working temperature of the engine. At a minimum, this will require new pistons since the bore has increased. Considering that the engine displacement is given by the formula d = (pi * bore^2 * stroke * no. of cylinders) / 4, we can see that a small increase in bore will have a large increase (squared) in displacement and hence power.

Apart from that, my earlier question still stands...is it something that is impractical...?

-quite impractical considering the costs!!

-there are much better/cheaper ways to increase engine power.

-also why would an average user worry about a rebore to increase engine power in the first place?

Well...some people are crazy...or atleast get weird ideas (like me Laughing)

Jokes apart, Binoy you mentioned there are better ways to increase engine power...could you throw some light on those please...?

Well there are many- eg:

-performance air filter with custom induction kit

-ECU modding

-free flow exhaust

-nitrous induction kits

-highlift cams

Ok...and how good is the performance gain and what about the costs? Also could you explain those things too...?

Boring is gonna be expensive and impractical for 4 wheelers.

I tried this and I had understeer, I tried that and I had oversteer, at the end of the corner I just ran out of talent!

-gain in performance will be from 10% to 50-60% more depending the mods done.

-explaining them would be outside the scope of tis thread-googling would be a better idea!

Yup, the explanation will be too long.
