Simplest technique is moving your shift points upwards. It will show you what your engine is capable of, without any mods.

As an exercise, try using your car with a 3k+ rpm shift point for upshift, and see how it behaves. It feels like a different beast altogether. Keep your eyes on the road and be safe!

A few modifications that are mentioned above are snake oil, and a few so non-VFM that I would not look at them. This I am saying after researching the ECU remap etc for perf modding.I would lothe having to spend hard earned money on snake oil and marginal return mods and harming the engine in the bargain. The perf mod service providers make hay because some are bent on making these mods without cost/benefit analysis. (I admit, bean counters do not fall in the performance modder category)

Enjoy your car as is, or sell it and buy another beast with better power if you are on a power trip.

Well I would like to say that the first lesson of modifying is to choose the right car. I'v had some real bad experience with the Astra. Rachit, Krishna and Rohit, I hope you remember my pain in the "Opel Astra Performance Upgrades" thread. Embarassed

@Topic - Its always better to mdify the car in such a way as to be able to get the car to stock condition when you want to. It is strongly adviced to install performance products( eg. filters, exhausts, ECUs, cams, turbos, etc. ) rather than messing with the original settings.

@Torque & krishna,

Well, its not that my car is under performing...just that I was inquisitive about these things. However personally I do feel that boring the engine is a better (though expensive & risky) option than ECU remapping simply because the gains would be much more than the latter case - we are physically making the engine more powerful...like adding another horse instead of making the others work harder or feeding them more Wink (though after boring the ECU would in all probability need to be remapped). Yes changing the engine would be more practical...but then it woudn't be the same car anymore, would it?

Krishna, about the 3k+ rev shift point - unfortunately Santros don't have an RPM indicator (mine doesn't) and I guess that's because Hyundai have internally limited the max. RPM so that even if the driver opens the throttle completely the engine will not rev beyond a limit - this also indicates that the engine has spare capacity which can be harnessed by modding its ECU.
