Hi All,

Finally decided to go in for a new car, but i am very much confused for what i should go, so i require all yours valuable recommendations. I don't want to extend my budget beyond 4.25 lakhs.

I am confused between these cars

Maruti Suzuki A-Star Vxi
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R VXi
Fiat Palio Stile 1.1 SLX

what i am looking from the car i want to buy

1. Decently looking good.

2. Fuel Economy

3. Low on maintainence (body parts etc)

4. Good interior.

5. Good on space. (front/rear leg room, bootspace)

I am a newbie in car matters, so please suggest what else i should look for. my daily traveling would be around 12-15 km city and may be 300-400 on highway once in 2 months.

Thanks

Amar

These are my opinions:

1. Looks are subjective. My vote would be for A-star.

2. A-star scores on paper even if it doesnt, it will give as much as wagonR gives. Again A-star

3. Maruti wins.

4. I liked the looks of A-star, Palio stile looks outdated and wagonR ok ok.

5. Palio wins followed by wagonR and A-star at a distant third.

Looking at your mileage FE needn't be much of a concern. Your shortlist of cars are also good. Being a newbie a TD is highly recomended. Lower models of Vista safire and i10 1.1 will come in your budget.

thanks for the suggestions. but i dont want to go in for a lower varient and end up spending money afterwards.

for that matters i was even thinking of going for a Alto, and getting it fully loaded like powder window and other stuff from outside, what your say on that.

I would blindly zeroed in on A-star (really liked the car from my 1st view, both exterior and interior wise), but when i looked at is bootspace, i was more than disappointed. should i go in for A-star then compromising on the bootspace.

A-star cannot be considered in your case as you would be running 300-400 on highways which means luggage would be there. This would be the deterrant on choosing a-star.

However, if the number of passengers are less and without much luggage then A-star can be taken.

Looking at this review would be of some help.

@Amar - IMHO wait before deciding on A-star. It all looks good on paper...but only the first few months will tell if it is a winner. I personally have reservations about the engine (3-cyl with 1000cc capacity). I guess a Santro Xing would be a good choice for your budget (or if you are willing to slightly stretch it) - it has a good track record.

Hi Amar,

A-Star is new, but quite good expected. But on highways its doubtful. Palio, i am not sure but you might get resale value compared to the other 2. Wagonr is good in overall, but the only thing is it is dated. But its proven and can be trusted. I got a wagonr 2 months ago, no matter its dated or not, but I had the same list of 5 points which you mentioned.

If you need a fully loaded one, then Spark will give them in much better price lower than your budget. Either if you need a good car for both kind of usage and also fully loaded then you have to strech your budget.

But in overall wagonr vxi scores as it is sturdy, low maintenance, good FE, ABS and you can add a good music system to it.

You can compare the cars.

Dude,

Wagon R VXi and Palio Stile are collectable gems. I have seen couple of artworks in Louvre  Museum depicting Louis XIV driving these models. If you are looking for something for your car musuem, then you should consider these.

Else, it should be A-star IMHO...Cool

Go for Palio stile 1.1 slx if comfort is a priority...it gives a decent mileage of 10 - 12 kmpl in city with 100% a/c.... boot is quite big.... five adults can be seated easily... service of tata is getting better as always...  i own this for a year now... initially i had certain small probs... but now its fine after my third service... its better.... its fully loaded...Many spread rumours its under powered... but i have easily reached top speeds of 120. U will feel the solid boby..But all in all take  TD to check....

In a budget of Rs.4.25 lac (maximum - on-road cost), I would suggest you to consider from WagonR VXi, i10 Era, Spark LT (Optional) & Vista Aqua - have a look at this comparison (go through the Specifications, Features & All Features).  The prices may differ on account of discounts - check with the dealers (Vista has no discount, I guess).
