Hi,
I have my esteem 2000 model. I have fitted LPG to it in 2005, in these three years 5 times I have changed the fuel tank pump. These five times while I am driving on high way and after finishing the gas if i change it to petrol mode automatically car is stopping and the petrol is not comming from the fuel tank to engine. But for the same trips before, petrol works good. How can i over came this problem? So that I want to go for engine change to diesel; And one agent offered me 1700cc nissan engine @ 48000/-including all. is the price is ok?

RTO will be a big headache. And truely speaking, Esteems body cannot take the vibrations of such a big diesel engine. I won't suggest you.

I tried this and I had understeer, I tried that and I had oversteer, at the end of the corner I just ran out of talent!

Yes, but with harder suspension.

And the car, wasn't able to handle the vibrations in 1500, so in 1700 it will be worse.Wink

@mustang please bring objectivity to the posts-being subjective is very easy.

Binoy, do you mind reading this.

Forums are meant to be subjective. Leave the objectivity part for the experts. Wink

And the car, wasn't able to handle the vibrations in 1500

-As in the car broke down and did not run anymore?

-did not find any mention of that in the link.

-Jk is looking at a way to minimise running costs for his old car and not trying to built the best handling car to win the National Championships.

-its pertinent to express viewpoints(based on objective data!?) but to project something(here the esteem)to be a failure when in reality it is to the contrary(the Diesel esteem did sell in good numbers) may well bridge on assuming things.

-mustang i never mentioned 'not to be subjective' but that its easy to do so.

-hope you can see this as a part of being on a public forum and not take it personally-thanks.

Ride quality is average at best and nowhere near what we have come to expect from our cars these days. Relatively unbroken roads throw the car all over the place and things can get quite uncomfortable in the cabin. With the extra weight of the engine up front, chassis balance is also lost and with the miserly 155/80 rubber, handling is but average. Understeer is a constant companion and the front washes wide with just a hint of spirited cornering. At speed, the Esteem gets quite nervous and straight line stability does become an issue. To compound all this it is the feather light steering that is great for driving in-town but not so great on the highway.

I believe this says it all, about the diesel Esteem. Wink If an Esteem faces this problem with 1500cc engine, and talking about an esteem with 1700cc, a complete no-no atlkeast from my side.

@Thread Starter, you even have change the suspension or you have to make it harder. And this will surely affect the weight distribution of car as well. So handling will also be an issue.

PS: It has been extracted from the link I have provided.

Again Mustang- did not object to anything written in the review-my objection was to the above statement which does not get a mention in the review-does it?!

-i would not take a Diesel(TUD5) Esteem if given for free-but that does not mean that it broke down and became undriveable because of the 'inability to handle vibrations'.

-thats all that i am saying-there is no issues like that-thats all!

Have a look at these two owner reviews of the car

Binoy, I said whatever I had to. If you read the reviews on mouthshut, one says Esteem is a powerhouse and third one whose link, you haven't provided says Esteem has a low powered engine. So, I believe when it coms to suspension and ride quality, I p[refer sticky to the expert opinion. And, me myself being deeply involved into a couple of suspension projects, I guess I can differetiate between, the good and bad when it comes to the vibration and stuff. Wink
