Actually the HINO W04D was also used in 1ton, you can identify them with the snorkel fixed to the left side. So going by that, the HINO would be a perfect fit on the 1 ton as well. In fact Arka of Jeep Thrills has one project one ton for the same purpose of retrofitting the HINO on it.

Yup, I had read about Arka's 4W73 aka 1 Ton. He has the original P40 Petrol engine and 4WD intact. He is planning to plonk in the HINO.

I thank Bikram and Doc for sharing so much about the JONGA with us. Its indeed a good learning for all of us here who don't know much about this magnificient 4x4. Hope to learn more and more about it.

Sabareesh,

Why not join in and get one as well, you would be the perfect candidate for Jonga as well as the Gurkha.

I was hunting badly for a JONGA but scarcity of parts in and around Mumbai was a big restraint for me. One of my friends has brought a JONGA back to life, it was saved from the scrapyard and he has maintained it with the original Petrol Engine & 4x4 in perfectly working condition.

Gurkha was also in my wish-list but the cost prevented me from getting it. I finally picked up a CJ500D 4x4 from a Forest Department Auction. Got the work done last month and the JEEP is ready to hit the road....err... off-road now.

Maybe in the future.........people like you deserve Gurkha and Jonga more so than others who buy it to pose. The petrol Jonga unless with the Hitachi carb is useless, the Solex not only weakens it but also burns out its valves early. Also the vale seats are soft and need to either be modded with hardened seats or you have to add 2T oil with ever tank fill. Lastly the cost of petrol today being prohibitive leaves you with no choice but diesel so the HINO with 17kmpl performance is the best bet.

Enjoy your JEEP.
