A comment in general....

A few of my relatives happen to be doctors.  My family doctor, a leading General Physician (here), is a family friend (very close).  I, therefore, know how demanding the job is - at the cost of personal/family life.

Our 'experience' (luckily limited until now) with doctors has been wonderful.  Looking to the vital role the Doctors play, it is essential for them to be a nice human-being first.  This applies to other professions/professionals as well.

@Binoy, by the way, this may interest you…

Dr/Pediatrician Inus Kasam Vijaliwala, author of Silence Please! (autobiography), reportedly the best-seller (50K copies sold since 2005), happens to be a local doctor here (Bhavnagar).

He is one of the leading Pediatricians here.  He nurses thalassemia-affected poor children, providing FREE blood transmissions, consultation and even pays for their transportation – doesn’t even charge a token fee, saying that the parents (poor) would stop bringing them & the children would die.  He also doesn’t charge fees for emergency cases that come to him at night.

In 2001 this doctor/pediatrician campaigned for a thalassemia patient to collect Rs.50 lac for bone marrow transplant in Italy – and had even launched a website to reach out to a larger set of donors & doctors for the purpose.

Incidentally, this 'angel-doctor' happens to be a son – one amongst the 7 children - of a poor newspaper vendor who ensured education for all of them by working hard day & night (with no other source of imcome).

Sorry everybody for this off-topic but it's worth a mention here (in context of recent/above discussions).

Well to clarify most of what a Pediatrician does is take care of healthy children-a big portion of our work revolves around a field called 'Neonatology'-deals with new born babies(actually from birth to 28days of life)-and no i am not a neonatologist-but a general pediatrician.

Another big chunk is 'Preventive Pediatrics'-ie deals with giving vaccinations and health and nutrition advice again to healthy children. These would constitute about 60% of any pediatricians work and the rest ofcourse children who have health issues.

The biggest impetus for me is to see the children smile and give a wave when they leave the hospital.

aww...that last line is sooo sweet.....

that wud make any "New" parent smile.....

but....

but...

but......

ask d kid of that age....

OMG.....INJECTION waaley UNCLE !!!!.....arrrghhhhh bhagohh!!!  (RUNN RUN RUNN!!!....lol)...

sorry Binoy.....but kids r kids.....n i blame der parents for this thought !!......they only say "Injection Injection Injection !!!!!...."
