Hi,

Well you didnot mention whether its a Diesel vehicle or a petrol one? If the car you opted for is the 1.6 LS i.e the petrol one then the FE you can expect should be in between 10-12kmpl not more than that. But in case the car under discussion is a 2.0 LS i.e diesel then you would be getting a FE in between 14-16 kmpl. As the car is too new and hasnot even undergone its first service, you can expect the average to improve. The exact FE would though be gauged only after the vehicle has undergone the first 3 services.

Regards,
Rubal

Its a diesel engine  so how much Kms should i wait to have a good mileage

The other thing is that though Magnum seems to b a superb vehicle why couldnt i find much of it

compared to Verna or Fiesta

Hi,

Thank god atleast rajiv bhai remembers me. You know sometimes you find great ppl out of nowhere and you are one of them. Coming back onto the topic, well Mr. Anonymous you have made a great choice by going for Optra Magnum(D). Its the best among all in its segment. You would start getting a decent average once you have crossed the 5000 kms mark on your odometer.
Coming onto the next query, why is it difficult to spot Magnum as compared to other cars! The reason is Chevrolet as a brand was in shambles before the launch of Optra Magnum and Spark. Both these vehicles gave a new lease of life to Chevrolet India.  The mindset of most of the indian customers is to go for something which njoys a gud brand repo. At the same time it wouldnot be rite to compare Optra Magnum with the likes of Fiesta or Verna as the vehicles belong to 2 different segments. Optra Magnum is a D-segment car and Verna and Fiesta and even Honda City ZX are C-segment cars. Now in D-segment Optra has to face the competition from Honda(Civic), Toyota(Corolla). Obviously both these brands share a better brand image in comparison with Chevrolet. But at the same time i would like to add that the perception for Chevrolet as a brand is fast changing.
Another important thing i would like to highlite is the fact that Optra Magnum (P) doesnot hold a gud reputation in the indian market because of its FE. So the choice for Magnum gets limited to the diesel model which is costlier as compared to the petrol model. And then we indians still believe that Diesel engines require a lot of maintainance as compared to the petrol ones. These misconceptions prove to be a big hindrance in the sales of Optra.
Regards,
Rubal

Yes, but it's no more so.  Maintenance of Diesel vis-a-vis its Petrol counterpart (same manufacturer) is almost at par. Even otherwise it doesn't tantamount more than 10% difference in long run (including repairs).

@ praveen,

dont worry much man, optra is a fantastic car & ull get good mileage of it.

just drive it properly as mileage effects due to ones driving style also, so drive the car with proper gear ratios & be careful & ur car will give good mileage.

do keep posting about ur experience with the car like hows the ride, wat u felt good  & bad about it, how is it on highways & all.

First i should thank for all your replies recently i had a drive about 600kms in my new optra diesel LS the power of the vehcle is remarkable ,excellent when overtaking, good driving comfort but what i felt was the brakes little bit secondary when compared to a fiesta which i had earlier but in other aspects its really superb.

The other question is should i keep my speed below 100 until i cover 5000kms in my odometer ?
