The Indigo XL with the Grand and Classic variants offers unparalleled legroom and comfort at affordable prices. There are host of features offered in the cars at an unbeatable price. The XL has 200 mm of additional legroom which means that the class best Indigo just got better. The Legroom is in fact better than most luxury cars available in our country today. The adjustable seats with lumbar support and the armrests in the rear pamper you in the lap of luxury. The beige interiors further enhance your experience. Also unique is the rear AC which allows ultimate backseat comfort. There are other features like trays, chiller in Glove box , Utility tray under the seats which are not found in other cars of the category.

The above is true, I have experienced it on the test drive ( I dont understand much about engines).  Inspite of this none of the CAR related magazines cover about this car nor recommend this car. ???

Team, I would like your opinion / recommendation on INDIGO XL DICOR GRAND, I am really not sure on the ENGINE performance and driving pleasure. But if it is good car I am really looking it as an option. My current choices in terms of preferrence in diesel cars are:
1. INDIGO XL DICOR GRAND
2. MAHINDRA RENAULT LOGAN DCi
3. HYUNDAI VERNA SXI ABS
4. FORD FIESTA SXI

Is there any other car that is going to be launced in the near future (diesel car) , budget 7 -8 lakhs (FIAT LINEA etc.), which is worth waiting for, kindly guide and advice.

The XL is nothing but a chop and stretch job of the Indigo platform and hence the dynamics suffers. More over as the indigo range stretches from 4.5 lac to the top end version of the XL at 8lac(Grand dicor variant) the price range on the same product is kind of disappointing.

Wait for the Linea or the 'usual suspects' that you have listed seem to be all there is to play with.

At the 7-8 lac price range the XL does not make any sense at all-not because its bad-but because there is a normal indigo priced 3 lacs less!

@ abhijit,

the budget u have, there are many other better options than the indigo xl & at this price as stated by binoy doesnt make a good buy. the space is good but wat about a overall car, if u like driving the car ur self the most than the xl is not for u, only if u r a back seat person than its good.

verna & fiesta are much much better.

but than too as u r ready to wait, it would be better if u wait for the linea as it will be a whole lot of better product with good looks, space, interiors, better technology & bigger than its competitors. & fiat are one of the best drivers cars.

Hi Abhijit,

I also had asked the same question for the indigo XL classic petrol. Well i got many mixed responses bt what i have learnt from all this is you have to and you must go for a test drive. When you go for a test drive compare it with the other test driven cars and see if you like the drive. If you feel the drive is bad then it makes no sense to take the car. but if u feel that u like the drive den i feel the car is the best in its class.

Many people have amny different views. Some like one car and the others luv another. but u will have to be the person who decides. Even i have fallen in luv with the indigo XL as its competitors with the amount of space ,features and engine. Check out the specs and its bettr than any other car in its class.

Also, I suggest u take the classi version whethr u take petrol or diesel. the grand version has hardly any features extra n it is 1.5L more expensive. Those features can be put by u in a cheaper price.

Compare the prices also with the same variant in other cars.

As binoy said , i would like to make a small correction in dat. he said that u get the indigo at 3 lakhs but thats not true as u get the basis version and the Indigo XL is the high end version of indigo with extra space n other extra features. The indigo high end version cums for 5.84L(taken from han motors mumbai , On road). that has to be compared. Also the engine is a bit inferior in terms of power n torque of the indigo.

Do check u get the driving pleasure n if u do den its the best car i would say. It only depends on u n only u.

No car is bad! everything depends on personal liking, but Indigo XL, though very very spacious and very comfortable yet not successful car of Tata. I have used Tata's indica and though Xeta is not doing good and resale is very poor, still I bought Xeta in Dec.06 because of space and the price 3.36 lacs on-road GLG (1.4l) model.

So, the order of the day... make a list of your priorities and buy a car which is having max. no. of rite ticks

And Binoy is saying normal indigo is avaliable 3 lacs cheaper than the indigo xl, and 7-8 lacs budget.. its not bad really and other good/successful cars are available.

Petrol options: Honda City, Ford Fiesta 1.6S, Ford Fiesta 1.4, Chevrolet Aveo, Maruti SX4, Hyundai Verna.

Diesel options: Ford Fiesta TDCi, Hyundai Verna.

If you want good space than you can also consider Ford Fusion TDCi .. I call it mini suv

People dont change when you tell them that there is a Better option... They change when they realise that there is No Other Option..

@Mawil- as Rajiv has rightly pointed out i guess you took the 3 lac figure to be the price of the car-its actually the difference between the XL and the normal indigo(8-3=5lac).

Then again the XL makes great value for money, the real problem is when the brand is taken into consideration-which is at the 7-8lac range is.

There was a concept car by TATA called the 'Magna' brought out in 2001?(i think-not sure)-this was the size of a Corolla-but they did not put it into production because market research showed that no one will buy it even if priced less than the corolla.

This is a picture of the Magna

Most welcome Rajiv-actually that was the time when TATA was still looking at Mercedes for inspiration in its models-like the TATA estate which was based on the then E-class Mercedes sedan!
Rumour was that the Magna was based on the C-class!

Why don't you try Indigo LX. Its cheap compared to XL by around 1 Lacs and except for extra leg room, same spacious as XL. Also driving in city easy due to less lenght.

The length of the XL is not at all an issue-as its shorter than a regular sedan like the SX4.
