Posted by Mawil Britto ...I am considering that people in mumbai are
very rash driver and very often you get a broken rear brake light, a
dent, a broken mirror etc. where as regular maintainance is considered
thats inevitable and how much extra will i have to shell if i have
take a honda, ford, toyota, cheverolet etc. As of what i heard the cars
with the least expensive maintainance are maruti , tata and
hyundai.
What you are saying about Mumbai traffic is quite right, however, you
don't get these things happening every day. If it happens once or twice
in the lifetime of your car, it's okay, I believe! Moreover, my
personal study of car maintenance in India says that midsize segment
doesn't have too much difference in the maintenance cost. Surely there
are a few cars like Verna, Dzire and SX4 which are highly inexpensive
to maintain. Rest all are same, you pay more or less similar price in
servicing (difference of 1000-2000 per service, max). When it comes to
major wear & tear/accidental/replaceable parts, you get a mix bag
of cheap and costly spares for all the cars. So, it depends on your
luck now as what you damage in what car.
Without further confusing you, I would suggest, you decide the car on
the basis of your basic needs e.g. comfort, looks, fuel economy,
performance etc. Discard maintenance cost the way you discarded resale
value. If you can afford to ignore 40,000 in resale, it's easy to
ignore twenty more thousands in maintenance over a period of five
years. Trust no car can survive in the Indian market today if it is too expensive to maintain. Once considered as too expensive American brands like GM and Ford too have nominal spares cost today. It's highly competitive world, my friend.
The car is going to be with you for next five years. It's like a
marriage. Too many calculations will only confuse you. Listen to your
heart.
