Even if the cost of Diesel & Petrol become at par - though quite unlikely, Diesel will feteh better resale for the reasons stated before (sturdier, stronger, better longevity & fuel efficiency).

Regarding maintenance & service cost of Petrol v/s Diesel... actually it's almost same (same manufacturer) due to similar cost of spares & repairs.  However, the total maintenance cost of Diesel in long run would work-out to a little more than Petrol, say by 10%.  Please look at this comparison (another thread).

In either case, it will not affect the resale market that Diesel commands.

Go in for Ford Fusion (diesel) or an Optra SRV (if lukin for petrol)

if u can spend 6.3 , u can also spend another 40 - 50 k

I dont knw y the people here in India turn to be blind , they dont look beyond TATA and Maruti , guys grow up go for chunky new models , and I cant imagine if people are considerin Indigo to be more stylish than SRV.

U buy car for urself , which reflects ur personality and not the one which could fetch some extra buks in resale markets.

Guys start loving cars , dont buy them to get gud returns in resale market, its all Heart Vs Brain game.

Benefits of Srv :

More space

Good looks

1.6 ltr engine 104bhp

extended waranties and other benefits

Hey guys,

Something I forgot to mention earlier was that my budget is around Rs6.5 L to Rs7 L max. Now the Verna comes about Rs 7.3 L minimum for the basic model and anyways this car falls into the SX4 segment. The rest as to what I am looking for and what are my main concerns I have put it up in the previous 2 posts.

Considering my budget can you guys please recommend me some other cars than what I have already test driven and have mentioned earlier.

Now guys please don’t take me wrong but recently I went to a tata showroom and I sat down in the Indigo XL. Most of us visualize it as a normal Indigo but trust me guys its wayyyyy different. I luved the space in the front and amazing space in the rear. Being a 5ft 8” my feet did not even touch the front seat even though the front seat was pulled back to its maximum limit. The boot space is also simply amzin. Now if I go to compare this with the Accent and Dzire both the Accent and dzire jst cannot compete with it. Surprisingly the accent also is not that spacious in the rear seats if a tall person has to pull the front seat fully back.

Now considering all this I would like to knw whether after considering my budget, the car and its competitors is my thinking n my decision right or am I making a wrong decision? The Accent n Dzire fall to about Rs5.8 L to Rs5.9 L and the Indigo XL cums at Rs6.3L.

I did think bout the resale value and finally came to a conclusion that (correct me if I am wrong) would it be better that I have a realllyy comfortable car and be really relaxed while I loose about 35-40K after 4-5 years in resale or I buy a just ok car which is basically comfortable and I gain that amount after 4-5 years. Well I closed my eyes n realized it wont make much of a difference when I see my self just relaxin in the back seat with the REAR AC cooling me off.

Well coming back to reality, I will be driving most of the times bt den there will definitely be times where I will pass on the wheel to someone else at the time of traveling outstation.

Please keep writing in coz Ive still not made up my minds and ur advices are really valuable to me and it will be a really memorable time when keeping in mind all ur advices I will purchase my new car.

BTW this is the 2nd time im writin this whole thing as the frst time the message was not saved and was not posted lol

Maybe you should have a look at the Tata Safari and also the logan before making a decision.

the XL is not a good buy as you are not an exclusively chauffeured person.

Well, in that case, you may consider Logan, as suggested by Binoy.  Safari I won't suggest, as it's, in my opinion, totally a different car that may not be required, as such.

As far as Logan is considered, it is very spacious & comfortable - though not as much as Indigo XL but definitely more than the others under reference.  It has probably the best suspensions - just right for our types of road.  Driving comfort/pleasure too is good.  The only negative, in my opinion, is its rear look - a little disappointing (no offense meant).

You can test-drive both (XL & Logan) & see/feel the difference first.

Na logan is not gud at all. As i have already meantioned the 4-5 cars earlier I have test driven each one of them and logan was the worst of the lot. Really bad driving pleasure.infact no driving please. horrible dash board and the only plus point was the space in the rear and the boot space. Really wouldnt advice any1 for the logan as the top end model cums up to Rs6.7L. NOT WORTH IT

Cheers!!!!

@ mawil,

if u are not in a hurry of buying a car than would suggest u to wait for the fiat linea as the launch is not far from now, it will be a promising product & much better than its competitors. it will have more & better features & better technology too.

& one more suggestion, as u say that u have a budget of around 7-7.3lacs, i would recommend u to go for a honda city zx exi model, as it is being offered big discounts & is a car worth buying & after what the dealer offers u discount u can even bargain it further & get a good price too.

so if wanna buy now than the city zx or else wait for the linea & if u r ok going for a hatchback than also the hyundai i20 is coming next month. it has good style, is technologically ahead & will have more features too.

My budget is max to max Rs 7 L and also as i have said before that when it comes to maintainance it should be very resonable n not at all costly. Also , i need a good boot space. I believe honda cars are quite costly when it comes to maintainance. I am considering that people in mumbai are very rash driver and very often you get a broken rear brake light, a dent, a broken mirror etc. where as regular maintainance is considered thats inevitable and how much extra will i have to shell if i have  take a honda, ford, toyota, cheverolet etc. As of what i heard the cars with the least expensive maintainance are maruti , tata and hyundai.

Please advice

What you are saying about Mumbai traffic is quite right, however, you don't get these things happening every day. If it happens once or twice in the lifetime of your car, it's okay, I believe! Moreover, my personal study of car maintenance in India says that midsize segment doesn't have too much difference in the maintenance cost. Surely there are a few cars like Verna, Dzire and SX4 which are highly inexpensive to maintain. Rest all are same, you pay more or less similar price in servicing (difference of 1000-2000 per service, max). When it comes to major wear & tear/accidental/replaceable parts, you get a mix bag of cheap and costly spares for all the cars. So, it depends on your luck now as what you damage in what car.

Without further confusing you, I would suggest, you decide the car on the basis of your basic needs e.g. comfort, looks, fuel economy, performance etc. Discard maintenance cost the way you discarded resale value. If you can afford to ignore 40,000 in resale, it's easy to ignore twenty more thousands in maintenance over a period of five years. Trust no car can survive in the Indian market today if it is too expensive to maintain. Once considered as too expensive American brands like GM and Ford too have nominal spares cost today. It's highly competitive world, my friend.

The car is going to be with you for next five years. It's like a marriage. Too many calculations will only confuse you. Listen to your heart.

@ mawil,

at this point of time maintainance of all the cars is almost same & spares are also very similarly priced, so not to worry much about the maintainance cost, as u will buy anyother car also, u have to maintain that also, its not that u r not going to maintain it because it is from maruti or hyundai.

honda is not at all hard to maintain & is very much affordable.

& about the maintainance for the honda city, than even i m using it since 2005 & till date there is no such maintainance, just regular service & the car is running very fine.

see the product u are getting & at wat price. i think the honda city zx being offered at this price is really a good buy & u can get further discounts too.

& honda being a very reliable brand, u dont have to see or study much before buying it, if u like the car u can without any second thought go for it.

where do u stay in mumbai mawil?

if i can come to ur any help regarding ur buy than do tell me. i am also from mumbai.
