.... which im sure will not be covered by that free maintainence. So anywaz Im not to happy bout the concept of free maintainance.....

I reiterate... that 'free maintanenace' is not free.

Anyway! thanks for your kind words.

Regarding Indigo XL, in my opinion, as I have stated before (post #2), it is a good choice.  The space & features provided are very good - especially for the price those come at.  Power, performance & all that are also good.

Dear Mawil,

Indigo XL is a wonderful vehicle when it comes to space and comfort at very affordable price. And when it comes to comfort, Dzire is not even close to Indigo, leave alone Indigo XL.

Since you have done a comprehensive research, I believe, you are pretty much aware with the fact that Indigo XL petrol will go for peanuts after five years when you will be selling it off. That's one major drawback, Tata petrol cars have.

About the dispute: I would like to advise Deepam for not advocating/iterating something again and again. Pankaj has mentioned very clearly in this thread that the Chevy's Cashless or Total Maintenance Plans are not as useful as they sound and they are not free either. Deepam, you must stop mentioning the same thing in every thread. If you still have doubt or need further discussion, kindly post your queries in the mentioned thread.

Moreover, specific mention of such offers wasn't required in this thread as Mawil had specifically told us his preferences. I seek your cooperation here, Deepam.

Dear Mawil,

Since you have done a comprehensive research, I believe, you are pretty much aware with the fact that Indigo XL petrol will go for peanuts after five years when you will be selling it off. That's one major drawback, Tata petrol cars have.

By the way, academically speaking… all petrol cars those have diesel counterparts, suffer on resale value / have lower resale value.   This is mainly because diesel engines are sturdier, stronger & have better longevity.  It is so also for the fact that diesel engines are more fuel efficient (mileage) & economical (cost of fuel), and therefore have much lower running cost (almost 50% as compared to petrol).

Nevertheless, like pointed out by Banwari, in case of Tata Petrol cars (Indigo or any), resale market/scenario is worse than it is in the case of other petrol cars.

Well, I have said 'worse' (not worst).  I used the word 'worse' in relative term while comparing the resale value/market of other Petrol cars.

I will soon post a comparison of resale value of a few petrol cars to substantiate the same.

... But not before tonight (am a little busy in Office). In the meantime, I suggest if you can please go through this Used Car Valuation Tool & try out (turn by turn) resale values of a few petrol cars & see the difference / comparison.

This post is edited subsequently to add the last para.

Indigo XL being only a 2-year old car, I have taken resale value accordingly (all cars).  I have purposely compared it with Fiesta, as it also known to be lower on resale value (though much better than Indigo XL), and for the fact that both (each) are evenly priced (same bracket).

The following comparisons reveal, as discussed before… (1) Low resale value of Indigo/Tata Petrol cars; and (2) Low resale value of Petrol cars vis-à-vis Diesel counterparts:

All cars January 2007 model with 30K used/run – 2nd hand market value in Mumbai

  • Indigo XL Grand Petrol Rs.7.00 lac > Resale value Rs.3.94 lac (individual) & Rs.3.75 lac (dealer).
  • Indigo XL Grand Diesel Rs.7.69 lac > Resale value Rs.5.05 lac (individual) & Rs.4.84 lac (dealer).
  • Fiesta ZXi Petrol Rs.6.91 lac > Resale value Rs.4.20 lac (individual) & Rs.4.04 lac (dealer).
  • Fiesta EXi Diesel Rs. 7.49 lac > Resale value Rs.5.32 lac (individual) & Rs.5.10 lac (dealer).

I have not provided links to the above, as it’s not feasible to give multiple links.  However, I have used ‘Used Car Valuation Tool’ for the purpose – the above can be re-checked therefrom.

Mawil - will you be driving or be driven. If u are going to drive, verna is fun - dint like the driving positions & ergonomics of logan and aveo. If you are getting driven, indigo xl might be better given the legroom. Wouldn't recommend the accent. However in terms of refinement, Swift is much better than all versions of indigo. Marutis, Hondas & Hyundais have the best resale value.

ps: owned an accent and own a verna- my wife loved the rear seat comfort of the accent and doesn't like the rear seat of the verna as it is bumpy. I however like driving the verna as it has a good response and dint quite like driving the accent due to its vague handling.

@ banwari,

i was just discussing about the aveo & just gave mawil information about the offer, i did not mention whether it is free or not or whether it is useful or not.

just told that chevrolet is providing this offer, nothing else.

@ mawil,

i would suggest u to go with the accent or the dzire as they both are far better than the indigo & will hold its srtrong presence & resale value too.

as tata's petrol are not that renonwned & somewhere the quality is missing.

if u want a mixture of all like performance, space, comfort, interiors & looks than acent is better than dzire.

have a look at both the cars, testdrive them & than decide.

What happen if the Diesel and Petrol Price become the same. As we know Diesel cars need more Maintainence...
