The Gypsy is for sure a capable 4x4 SUV. In fact the abilities of this monster can never be compared to the modern SUVs like Pajero, Tuscon, Endeavour  etc.. Its in the league of no nonsense, sheer off road machines like the JEEP, Nissan Patrols & Land Rovers.

If you can plonk in a LPG kit, this beast can be very much wallet friendly. Spare parts are readily available and any mechanic in the  nook and corner of India can fix it as its been in the country for the past 20 years.

Really?

Pajero has won the Pari Dakar more times than any other 4 x 4. The Gypsy sure is capable, but not a patch on the Pajero.

Pajero is one of the oldest SUV's and is simply too good , but dated , but its pricing is around 20 lakhs! but for a given budget of around 10 lkahs for a SUV , the Safari 4WD Diesel will be best off roader to me!

well any updates from the Querry asker??

Yeh man  i know that , Moontero was laubnched around 10 months back - 1 yr back ! but i am sure the Outlander is even Better!

comming back to the point these SUV are not affordable by a medium class , hence i said Disel Safari , one can do off roadings as well as Fuel economy decent 8- 10(city )  13 in highways for Diesel!

anyways there has been no such details about the furthur requriements our person wants , if he wud have told it , it wud have been even better to sort the things out! ( what say)

Pajero is sure a Dakar winner, but with better power to weight ratios & better axle articulation, the gypsy would exceed Pajero Off Road.

Which is the cheapest 4 x 4 SUV available in India. I have gone through the feature list buy carwale mention no where if the SUV is 4 x 4 or not. Only higher models of safari above 10 lakhs are 4 x 4 which is out of my range.

I plan this car for my off road trips in rough weather in Himalayas. Any suggestions ?
Well, The Cheapest 4X4 available in india at this time is MAHINDRA BOLERO!!...4x4 comes optional in it!!

Even the Bolero SLX 2WD comes with a ex-showroom price of 5.9lac and the 4WD is near the 6.2lac range.

So the Gypsy remains the Cheapest 4 x 4 SUV!

Gypsy (Petrol) has 1298CC engine that delivers 80ps of power @ 6000rpm & 103nm of torque @ 4500rpm.  It has kerb weight of 1050kgs & gross weight 1600kgs.

Pajero (Diesel) has 2835CC engine that delivers 118ps of power @4000rpm & 292nm of torque @ 2000rpm. It has kerb weight of 2155kgs & gross weight 2800kgs.
