Hi , I'm looking to buy a car within budget of 6 lakh but didn't like Indigo, Logan, Accent. I started finding Chevrolet Aveo 1.4 Special edition something worth a think but have no idea how good the car is, it's average, maintainance etc. In the same category found Honda City - but will be the deing version as new version is coming soon but bit expensive then what it is, SX4 - sthg i liked but average is too less and Hyundai Verna - worth a thought but out of reach.

I can still afford to find funds for any of these car, but need a nice guidance. Just wanted to know which is best of these. So far my preferance is:
1. Aveo
2. Honda City
3. SX4
4. Verna

Hi Rajat,

Before you decide upon a car, the first thing you should do is define its utility. By utlity I mean how much you will drive it, what is more important to you, ride quality/interiors/features/safety etc. and then based on these parameters you can rank your options.

After your post I am assuming that you are looking for a petrol sedan. the comparision of the four cars you have chosen is here.

Aveo has very good interiors, but is slightly cramped for space as compared to the other three. SX4 has the best safety and other features, but lacks in the interiors. City, for a comparable price bracket, will be the base model. Verna petrol is average on all fronts, but it does not really towers over any of the other three cars. In terms of ride quality I feel you will like Verna and SX4 better as they have more powerful engine. However, for the same reason the mileage of City and Aveo will be better than these two.

As you can see each of these cars have their relative pluses and minuses. you obviously can not have the best of both worlds, so each of the choice is bit of compromise over the other. What you have to decide is what you are looking for in car. If you could list down your priorities in an order I, and other users, will be able to guide you better.

Hi,

  I have a similar confusion, as in which one to buy. In my preference also, i have AVEO first. The parameters i am looking for my car as;

1) I am really not looking for a very zipper type of engine which can go 0-100 in 10 sec. I can adjust with the engine. But overall performance of the engine should be OK.

2) I am looking for a car which would be easy to maintain for next 10 yrs. So maintainance should be easy on pockets.

3) Smart looking (Interiors + Exteriors)

4) Value for money.

5) Comparable mileage - My avg monthy city drive would be around 800 KM and Higway drive would be around 500 KM

6) I can spend upto 8.5 Lakhs max.

If you could suggest based on above parameter, which car would be good, it will be very helpful.

Thanks,

Sachin

This is the one to go for-if you are looking at the next 10 years-all others considered may not give service over that long a period-price is 8.1lac though!

Thanx for prompt reply.

OK, may be 10 years a very long time. Say if one wants to plan for next 5 yrs time. Then what do you suggest.

Honestly speaking, my heart is inclined toward going for AVEO and its just that i dont see this car much on road, that makes me confused. I have not heard much negative about this car. Only negative that i have mainly heard about is its gear box which is not very good for city drive. That too as per different forum reviews is improved in the current version.

Somehow i feel HONDA will be overexpense, when in lesser amount probably one can get car with more features, comparable performance over period of 5 yrs atleast, good on pocket etc

Not sure of my opinions..please suggest / advice / comments.

Thanks

Aveo is great car no doubt but as you say the mechanical bits remains somewhat lacking.

Why i suggested the Honda was because of the overall appeal of the car-the Verna/Aveo/Fiesta tend to considered as a bunch while the Honda is taken in a different sense-all are great cars with pluses and minuses but in the end i personally feel the Honda will put a smile on your face every morning.

here is a comparison between all four

Checkout Aveo limited edition, interiors are too good, better than any other car of its segment in my opinion, Car is good too, Aveo 1.4 is good choice, dont think about the 1.6, in 1.6 Ford Fiesta 1.6S is superb.

Honda city is great, but new one is costly, You can consider City Zx, mileage and resale is too good.

Maruti SX4, well.... the best from Maruti but big negative is mileage which is around 9kmpl only in city with a.c.

Verna, consider Diesel only but diesel one is over 8 lacs.

Take a long test drive of all these cars with family and pick one.

If say i do all the payment in one go...and then get discounts like Corporate discount, cash discount etc from the dealer...will it bring the cost of New Honda City 2008 S MT version to around 8.5 in New Delhi?

This is just an assumption that i can get those discounts and bring down the cost.

@ 8.5 Lakhs, how is the deal ?

Getting the S version at 8.5 would be really great-as the car is having high demand its unlikely to get great discounts-good luck anyways.
