Hi , I'm looking to buy a car within budget of 6 lakh but didn't like Indigo, Logan, Accent. I started finding Chevrolet Aveo 1.4 Special edition something worth a think but have no idea how good the car is, it's average, maintainance etc. In the same category found Honda City - but will be the deing version as new version is coming soon but bit expensive then what it is, SX4 - sthg i liked but average is too less and Hyundai Verna - worth a thought but out of reach.

I can still afford to find funds for any of these car, but need a nice guidance. Just wanted to know which is best of these. So far my preferance is:
1. Aveo
2. Honda City
3. SX4
4. Verna

My SX4 has served me well for almost 2 yrs and 40000 km.It is the most practical and powerful car of the lot .The City suffers from small and low back seat and low ground clearance so not very good on Indian roads, add the high price tag and it becomes non practical.SX4 in comparison has a very power packed and refined drive which is far better than Aveo and better than Verna .Its fuel economy never disappoints,it gives 13.8 to 14.2 kmpl in city with ac and jams.Aveo, though cheap,is not much of use other than its low price tag.

Hi,

  I have a similar confusion, as in which one to buy. In my preference also, i have AVEO first. The parameters i am looking for my car as;

1) I am really not looking for a very zipper type of engine which can go 0-100 in 10 sec. I can adjust with the engine. But overall performance of the engine should be OK.

2) I am looking for a car which would be easy to maintain for next 10 yrs. So maintainance should be easy on pockets.

3) Smart looking (Interiors + Exteriors)

4) Value for money.

5) Comparable mileage - My avg monthy city drive would be around 800 KM and Higway drive would be around 500 KM

6) I can spend upto 8.5 Lakhs max.

If you could suggest based on above parameter, which car would be good, it will be very helpful.

Thanks,

Sachin

Hi Sachin,

You are looking for a car that

- need not zip from 0 to 100 in 10 secs

- easy to maintain -> i.e less expensive to maintain

- smart looking, VFM, good mileage @ about 8.5L

As you are driving 800 KMs in city and 500 KMs on highways, I strongly suggest you to consider a diesel car as it will save you lot of money too.(Please note that diesel cars of today are as easy to maintain as petrol cars)

I would suggest you to consider Fiat Linea Diesel as it scores well on all paramaters you are particular about.

- descent acceleration initially followed by terrific accelration above 30 KMPH

- cheapest spare parts and service cost among sedans and only slightly above SX4 spare parts cost, but service interval is 15000 KMs unlike 5 or 10K of City or Verna or SX4. I have done my 2 services including my second service after 15000 KMs and the service quality is very good and spare parts cost have become even slightly lesser than waht was published earlier.

- in terms of looks no doubt Linea is a winner. It has stunning looks. In terms of interiors, there are few plastics which can be better. But neither City nor Verna have classy interiors.

- Linea is VFM car as it gives so many features that are not even provided by cars in the same segment

- mileage - I get min 15 to 16 with AC in City and 19+ on highways with not so fuel conscious driving itself. This is the common avg I have come across various users too. You will save a lot of money in terms of fuel every month compared to petrol

- @8.5 L you can get an Active but if you can stretch go for dynamic or even emotion whhch is really worth it.

Above all Linea gives you excellent ride over even bad roads with its superior suspension compared to any other car in this segment (Verna is the worst followed by SX4 and then City) and has excellent road grip.

Honda City is way ahead compared to other cars, but you need to be careful with ground clearance its low and may not be suitable for Ludhiana road condition (we don't know you are in better position to judge).

Aveo Sedan is good car 1.4L gives good mileage compared to other cars, ground celarance 180mm, warranty three years/1,00,000km, increasing service network, on highways with 100% AC it givs mileage of 14.5, the precaution to be taken after buying : a) keep speed 50/60 km/hr max for first 1000km and change engine oil after first 1000km. b) drive at constant speed.

I am a proud owner of Sx4. Everybody in my locality is envying my Sx4. The car has macho looks, even majestic than the skoda superb. Sx4 is having high ground clearance, hence no problem of water entering car in monsoon seasons. Also, Sx4 engine gives great pickup and power delivery. Sx4 braking is too good. Sx4 is all rounder sedan, and best car of Maruti Suzuki!

Thanx for prompt reply.

OK, may be 10 years a very long time. Say if one wants to plan for next 5 yrs time. Then what do you suggest.

Honestly speaking, my heart is inclined toward going for AVEO and its just that i dont see this car much on road, that makes me confused. I have not heard much negative about this car. Only negative that i have mainly heard about is its gear box which is not very good for city drive. That too as per different forum reviews is improved in the current version.

Somehow i feel HONDA will be overexpense, when in lesser amount probably one can get car with more features, comparable performance over period of 5 yrs atleast, good on pocket etc

Not sure of my opinions..please suggest / advice / comments.

Thanks

On gear box of Aveo if compared with other cars only minor issue in reverse gear where as forward gears are very smooth. In overall terms for practical usage its gear boxes are trouble free. 1.4L gives very good mileage in city with 100%AC depending on traffic will give frpm 9 to 11, on highways with 100%AC it gives 14.5.

Best is take the test drive.

I have a Aveo 1.4 LS Limited Edition which is now 2 years old and has travelled 35k kms already.

The 3 years/45k kms package from Chevrolet is a boon as it covers all expenses of services and change of parts. One must go in for this package.

The car is smooth though the gears are slightly on the harder side. The other problem visible now is the Fuel Efficiency. Initially, the FE was 12-13 kmpl. However, now I see it is not going above 9-10 kmpl. These figures are with 95% AC.

Complaints to the Service center have not yielded any result. Couple of Aveo owners I spoke to have the similar complaints.

I have a 15 month old SX4 as well and till date it comes out with 11 kmpl with 100% AC.

Any suggestions anyone?

Rather than buying a  Aveo now, better to wait GMs Chinese car which will come early next year, better and bigger than Aveo at same cost.
