Sri rebore-with over sized pistons and rings is a costly affair- i have no idea about the cost involved with the sierra-but my guess is at least 15-20K.

Please take the car to an authorized TATA workshop and get the compression in the cylinders measured.A temporary measure would be changing rings(much cheaper) alone and using thicker grade engine oil.

Dear All:

I brought a sierra for about 1 lakh rupees and had spent 50k nearly and still it had many issues. So, i finally sold it for a loss of 50k as its engine was to be overhauled. No matter how good it looks it will burn your pocket.

Its indeed a very fun to drive car with good looks, but the maintenance is a nightmare. my sincere sugestion for anyone who is looking to buy a sierra is a strict no. A mahindra MM540 or 550 should be a good alternative and may last long with minimum maintenence.

After, that i brought a 5 speed 800 DX and happy with it.

regards,

Srikanth

Sri

Good decision taken.  And, when you had bought a Sierra for ONLY Rs. 1 lakh, what did you think would be the cost of refurbishing it?!Surprised   You are lucky that a "bhakra" had purchased the Sierra from you!!Wink

When i sold, i told the buyer of all the problems it had. But it was taken as it had new seat covers, new headlights, tyres not even ran 500 km..etc.

I brought assuming i may incurr only 20-40 k to make it roddworthy. But, it was much beyond that. Though from the looks it looks as if it is in perfect condition.

But i still like the ride on it. Just an experience wanted to share for others not to burn their  pockets.

Srikanth

Sri

Your posts in this thread would be immensely useful to persons thinking of purchasing second hand vehicle.  Thanks.  A vehicle's engine road-worthiness is the most important factor while checking-out used vehicles.  Many a times we get carried away by the cosmetics.  Enjoy driving your new vehicle. Drive safe.
