Hi All,

For a quick introduction, Iam susheel from Mumbai. I would like to know what exactly is ABS (Anti-Lock Brakng System) Is it got something to do with suspensions or brakes??? Is it something like disc braking technology in 2 wheelers? Can you guys help me understand this more? Thanks

Hi Susheel,

Welcome to Carwale, Iam as new as you are. Iam sure we will have a good time here. ABS is a 4 wheel system that  prevents the wheel from locking up automatically, during an emergency stop it regulates the brake pressure

For details, I suggest if you could go through this LINK/thread. Thanks.

Honesty is not a Spare Wheel that you pull out when in trouble. It's a Steering Wheel that keeps you on the right path throughout the life's journey.

hello susheel & pradeep, welcome to carwale.

ABS is related with brakes, it is a system with censors fitted on all 4 wheels. it is mainly beneficial on wet roads, hilly regions & corners.

when u brake hard the censors detect & give appropriate brake force on a particular wheel so that wat amount of force is needed the wheel gets that much only so ur car stays in the line. if there is no ABS in the car & when u apply haed brakes there are chances of wheel locking up & ur car can skid. with ABS it doesnt happen like this & ur car doesnot skid.

Adding to pradeep and deepam's point…ABS, keeps the car in control from no unwanted skids, just in case you jam the brakes. What this does is keeps the driver in full control of the car at all times. Cars today come with advance tech of ABS called EBD – Electronic Brake Force Distribution, this determines the load condtion of front and rear axles and make differentiated adjustments to the breaking pressure

ABS is basically suited more for wet & hilly areas.

again from personal experience i beg to differ-again right Pankaj.

ABS and 'corner'  dosent have anything to do with each other!

ABS is concerned only with braking-period. What you are describing(and in the process confusing) is electronic brake force distribution which selectively redistributes/selective brakes individual wheels.

Please check your facts before posting.
