hey guys.... Few days back i saw small grey coloured wire covering( insulation)

in my new i10 ... i thought tht this may have been left during the installation of music or car security system,.... but yesterday i saw rat droppings in my car dash box (remember i10 -- beige interiors , these things are clearly visible!!!)

Now i fear tht these rats may hv already started chewing into my wires ....

few questions ...

Can tht wire actually hv been left during installation or could a rat actually remove a wire's insulation ?????

second how could a rat enter my dash box...I can understand it's entering inside the car but how come a dash box????

and third my usage of car is less and plus b'cos it's raining here in delhi i usually keep my car covered ...could it be tht b'cos of this as it's dark inside the car the rats prefer to stay inside my car ???

I guess these ques are a bit silly as u would need to be a rat expert to answer the 1st and 3rd ques but was a bit curious as i get my car cleaned daily so i guess(or wish)they shouldn't inhabit my car atleast

I'm not a rat expert, but I feel so...

  1. Rats may have chewed/removed the insulation.
  2. Once inside, rats can virtually reach anywhere.
  3. Rats inhabit more in cars that are covered.

Use the tactics discussed before in this thread to remove the rat/s.

I am also not a Rat Expert but today I caught Rat No. 14 from my car. I visited the Car accessories shop of my friend, told him that there is small space behind Coolent box and I guess this is the place from where Rats are coming in, One boy opened the Box and my god, huge mistake at the time of fixing Remote Locking, there was a big hole, size was almost 3" and one big seal was also there in the engine, somehow stucked in the engine, The boy who fitted the remote locking just left that seal in Nov.07Cry

Now the seal is fit on the hole with a cut for Wire and fixed with a tape too.

One advice, use a Rat Trap (Chuhedani). Yesterday nite I was very tired, I parked the car and moving but somehow opened the boot and Fixed rat trap before leaving and a big one was there in Trap in the morning. See the size of Rat

Rajiv the Rat Collector Wink 14 RATS! This BIG!! Good Hunting heh!

Why not rear a cat and tie it near the car every night? Or may be we should scout around Kids Toys Shops (Chinese Toys), if lucky we may get a Cat doll which "purrs" now and then.

I am lucky in this Rat('s) Rage (touchwoodTongue out). I too park my car outside. But there are around 10 to 12 cats around/outside my house and they seem to be active at nights. I do have a minior problem with these cats. Every morning I had to wash my cars fenders! Cats pee (like Big Cats !!) straight on the fenders Cry

Since 4-5 days i haven't been using my car so Yesterday I just checked my Indica underhood where our Rats fill warm and secure Tongue out , and soon as i opened the bonnet what the **** Surprised i saw 3 heavyduty RATs seating comfortably on the engine. One of them jumped out of the car. Other two tried to hide under the engine though i could see their tails from the gap. Then I had started my car successfully [cause m worried about their maniac] (hushh theyy din chewed or crushed any cables, checkd all the accesories runnin on battery)and had 2-3 kms drive. Rats were gone after drive.  Then i put n tied 5 tobacco packets and 5 ratkill cakes around engine compartment.Smile

Since others are talking about rats inside the cabin and  hopefully i didn't experienced such thing.. thank god...thanks TATA  Wink... thanks to all of u replyin to my thread.

Damn!! this is news to me. I never knew apart from all the troubles that you would need to worry about with a car, rats also form a major part of it.

I must say, some of the techniques used here in this thread to encounter this problem were extremely innovative and hilarious.Smile

Cheers,
Naveen

I have suffered with similar problem on my brand New Wagon R twice. I had to tow the car to work shop.

I have tried keeping tobaco sachet in side the hood as suggested by workshop but still problem cotinued.

finaly I have some relife by covering individual electrical wires by thin stainless steel wire mesh which is available at hardware shop. This has eliminated acess  to wiring and problem avoided.

My suggestion is to fix detachable wire net bellow the engin to restrict the entry of rodents in engine compartment. experts can  verify the possibility.

Thanks,

Dilip Thakur

Guys...

Its now my turn. Yesterday when i was trying to use my Water + Wiper option, there was no water coming out of it. i thought there was no water and filled the tank again in the night. strangely whatever water i poured had come out through the bottom of the front wheel. i tot there could be some leakage in the tank. i couldnt check properly as it was too dark.

I checked the same in the morning and found out that actually the tube which was connecting the tank to wiper was bitten by those tiny little rats... it also had chewed some of the wires (luckily it was the wire of the small right indicator which is near the door)... since other wires were not affected i was able to take my car to the service station and fixed it today morning...

The service guy told u can place some thorny bushes (stems of rose plants etc) near the place where it actually enters in the bonnet. Anyways will try other options discussed here...

These little rats are going to give me sleepless nights... i own a just 2 months old Alto.

I too suffered rat menace. Wires bitten, rat poo inside the car and all sorts of nuisance. Was earlier staying in an area in Bangalore which was near to the open flowing sewage canal which attracted lots of sumo rats. Tried all sorts of poisons and traps. But it was hard to defeat their numbers. Funny thing was the rat poison kept under the bonnet would be finished the next morning and to my surprise the new packets that I would keep in the glove box for the next refill would be gone too. I actually had to keep the new packets safe in order to prevent them from finishing it all at one go.

Dear db,

I would recommend an ultrasonic rodent repeller specifically designed for cars.  A company by the name of Maser Electronics Pvt Ltd in Mumbai is manufacturing the same.  Their website is www.maserindia.com. Hope this helps.

Shankar Iyer
