Again the very old question. A rat is residing in my car since last 5 days. In these 5 days i done journy to my home town of 8 hours, stayed 2 days(260kms trip up-down). After returning home i was so angry to see that the rat is still in car and even bite off my travel bag with a big hole in it. I was using a trap outside the car containing Chappati loaded with Ghee(as advised by Pankaj Prasad). Now i kept the trap inside the laguage compartment. Please pray that the rat should die before making a hole in my valet. If it do not work will use tobacco.

Is it a rat or a mouse (the small one)?

Sometimes when we keep the door/boot open (especially in the night), rat can creep in without our noticing. But if a rat/mouse can enter through some hole in the car, it is dangerous. Even a small snake can follow that. I have read news about poisonous snakes found inside cars.Ensure that there are no such openings leading into the cabin.

I generally use the cake/biscuit type bait (Mortein) and is found to be effective against rats.

Thanks Tomy

It is a rat. I saw it running when i open the banat to check the engine oil dip stick. I never kept/left the door or boot open(for sure). There might be a hole as you said. Rat is wandering from engine to boot very freely. Even today morning i found dirt of rat. I think if we use Mortein, the rat may die inside the dash board(one of my friend said).

Thanks Tomy

. I never kept/left the door or boot open(for sure).

What I meant was, when we open the boot to unload something and when we turn to keep it down, rat might slip in. Anyway, since you suspect a hole, try to locate it and close it first.

Also do keep tobacco pouches in the bonnet and the boot. The smell keeps the rats away

An accident is generally the result of a screw loose in the nut behind the steering wheel

Rat got killed in the trap. For precaution purpose i bought tobacco packets, and use them in boot and bonnet.

Thanks again Tomy. Got your point.

I read somewhere that even the cigrarette smoke absorbed earlier by the wall of a room can emit some carcinogenic fumes later. Dont know how correct it is. Please check up if raw tobacco also emits some harmful fumes (rats could be smart enough to keep away from that!).

Guys, i had to wake this thread, as a little rat seems to be trolling inside my car.

It had chewed up a tiny tupperware box which had some nuts, but iguess it could not open it completely.

I should get this fixed before it gets ready for another attack. This thread was really helpful. i shall try finding the gaps to the cabin and place the tobacco sachets + few naphtalene ( shall make sure to only a few), i have two questions.

1. Is there any other gap/hole from any other side of the car (apart from the engine bay) say from rear seat or from boot ? Mine is a fiesta

2. does high end cars like merc/bmw has any inbuilt feature to scare away the rodents?
