It was giving around 17-18 on highways before the first oil change (3rd service). I have not driven much after the oil change. In fact I cut down my usage drastically in the last few months after the marathon petrol price hike and hence not yet touched 5000 Km.

I am planning for a long trip during December end. I will get the picture only then.

Kavitha here ...

Hyundai i10 IRDE2 1.1 engine

3 months and 1600KM only

frnds i drove more distance in different modes for the last week. My vehicle is yet to have an oil change ie done with only the first service. maintaing between 60-70 without AC and traffic free its giving 20km/l and same speed with AC 15-16km/l but in the traffic where i can travel in 30-40-20-30-40-30 with 70 % AC only 10-11km/l. I take care that i dont keep my foot on clutch while driving ) Any suggestions to improve the mileage ??

Will the mileage increase 2-3km/l after second service??

One more querry . During night time drives after putting AC i feel very cold after five minutes, so i switch off the AC but the fan runs. Does this make any reduction in power? And also after 5minutes i feel the loss in coolness, so i switch it on again. ie during night times every five minutes my AC gets switched On and after 5 minutes it gets switched off . does this freequent activity damage AC unit or something else??

query 3: freequent dip in power when running on full load capacity esp. when it climbs a hill. even in 2nd gear feels the lag, where some other vehicles like Wagon R and Micra overtakes me there so swiftly ((

please reply to the 3 querriees...

Q1:For 1.1 or 1.2 L engine, the mileage will be slightly less than 1 L engine (like Wagon R). After the first oil change, there can be a marginal improvement. I dont think the mileage you mentioned is all that bad for an i10. In heavy city traffic (the pattern you mentioned), it is natural to have less mileage even if you follow good driving practices. This is true for all cars (not just i10). As per Maruti, the mileage will slightly increase till 3000Kms of running and it will stabilize after that. I think this is applicable for other cars like i10 also.

Q2: Switching the a/c on and off frequently is not a good idea. It is not very good for a/c and is a disturbance while driving. If the a/c is too cold, keep the blower in mininum speed and adjust the temperature setting. i.e. instead of keeping at the extreme blue (cooling) position, move it slightly towards the warmer position till the comfortable temperature is achieved. Once we do that, the compressor will automatically switch on and off (using a small clutch inside the compressor) whenever required and maintain the required temperature. And when the compressor is automatically cut off, it will consume slightly less fuel till the time it automatically turns on again. So manual off and on does not really give better FE than automatic temerpatrue setting.

When the compressor is on, it reduces the pulling power of the engine a bit. But when only blower is running it does not reduce the pulling to a noticeable level. For short steep uphill climbs, you can switch off the a/c manually if you want to increase the pulling.

Q3: You mentioned that the car was fully loaded. Are the cars which overtook (Wagon R or Mirca) also fully loaded? Did all cars have a/c? Basically, I am asking if we are comparing apple to apple (i.e. all cars are compared under the same conditions).

Anyway, I suggest that you wait till 3000Km and first oil change before concluding anything.

kavitha here on i10 irde2 1.1 bought september 2011

sO From extreme blue (in the AC) i hav switched to middle blue.. decent cooling all throughout the journey ... i'm riding good distance these days and try maintainng the speeds of 40-50-60-70-50 in my village terrains. Will update the mileage figures also in the coming days ..

so frnds (esp.Tomy), i would like to ask you something else.. What is the approx. price of the chrome finished tail lamp cover? Will it look good on my White I10 (crystal white) ..

another querry is my tires are R13 155/80 MRF ZVTS and a guy in my office said if i upgrade to 14inch tyres i willl get more comfort and smooth ride. But when i went to hyundai servive they told its not effective for 1.1 engine.. ur ideas?/ i have rode 2000km and will i get some resale on my 3months old tires?//

will this tire change drop the milegae drastically??

what is this 155/80 ie 80 for what and 155 for what ??

sorry if am overquestioning !

love to know things on vehicles...

I dont have the price for the tail lamp cover. Chrome finish will look good on white (as long as it is not too big or prominant), but personally I dont like such accessories and hence do not use it.

Regarding the numbers in the tyre specification, you can visit the following site. It explains what each number denotes.

http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html

13 or 14 refers to the diameter of the rim (wheel) where you fit the tyre (inside diameter of the tyre). I dont think you can just change the tyre from 13 to 14 without changing the wheel (rim). But if you change from 13 to 14 (rim), then the outer diameter of the tyre should remain same as the original one, else the speedometer and odometer will show wrong reading. This is because, the meters measure only the number of rotations per minute. If the diameter changes, the actual distance travelled in one roation changes.

Also, an increase in outer diameter can affect pickup and you may be forced to use one gear lower than normal at times. That could be the reason why service center people said it is not a good idea for 1.1 L engine.

If you want to change to a tyre with more width (for better grip), it is OK as long as the diameter does not change. However, better grip means more friction and slight reduction in mileage.

Dont expect much resale value for used tyres.

Let me ask a question. Why do you want to change the type of tyre, in the first place? The manufacturer has put the optimum size.

Hi,

me too having i10-1.2 Magna, 11 month old with 4200KMs. I am getting FE 12 Kmpl in city and 16-17Kmpl on highway..

Kindly clear me that if it is the right, as hyudai is claiming ~21Kmpl for 1.2 Kappa.. should I go the dealer ask for the check ( I did earlier and it was told that everything is OK with car and that is FE you will get with i10).

need suggestion to increase FE in city//

Don't worry about Hyundai's claims - those mileage figures are as per ARAI - not real world.

12Kmpl in city is not a very bad figure for a 1.2 Litre engine.

Not at all bad. Nevergo with the ARAI figures for any car. Those are measured in ideal condition. I get around 12-13 kmpl in city and 18 kmpl on highway with my i10 Magna 1.2
