My cousion is searching a good city purpose car.

because of low running of about 700 kms per month we prefering a LPG car over any deisel car...as the price of petrol is far to maintain for him.

pls suggest us weather we should opt for any car and intall the lpg kid from outside or we purchase a company fitted lpg car.

if company fitted lpg car...we had short listed 3 car...Maruti WAGAN R, HYUNDAI SANTRO LPG AND TATA INDICA XETA LPG.

kindly suggest us the best of three..., an terms of everything....sp. millage and maintainance.

WagonR DUO Santro LPG, both are good - WagonR DUO is slightly better, I feel.

Avoid Xeta LPG - it's not known to be as problem free as the other two under reference.

My opinion is stated in the post 3.  Avoid Xeta LPG.  Test-drive WagonR DUO & Santro LPG - go for the one that suits your preferences & likes/dislikes (both are good).

WagonR is more airy & comfortable while Santro has better road-grip.  WagonR may return a little better mileage (like it does on petrol).

Thanks Prasad

Well Im a novice car owner going to buy one. Going to get trained from Maruti driving school. ALl my info on cars, mileage, maintenece is thro friends and carwale.com.

Going by your suggestion, i need a better road grip as my running will be on hiways. So i prefer santro for the same as well as its looks

I do not have much city ride. Only highways, once in a month max 300 kms on highway.50 km in city per month. Does an lpg cause more damage to the vehicle? I plan to have only once car for next 15 years. Pls let me know if running on lpg would cut short the life. Im concerned of the rising petrol costs also.

pls suggest if going for lpg model and spending 23k extra is worth the cost.also do the petro and lpg prices rise in same proportions?

I would suggest you not to go for LPG - nothing wrong - but your run/usage doesn't merit.  It is generally preferred when run/usage is substantially high. Running-cost will be lower by only 30-35%. Performance on LPG - howsoever good (advanced technology/advancer) - will not match with that of Petrol due power loss, and will also not be as trouble-free as Petrol.

Go for petrol - Santro - it's better & safer car for highway.

Hi Prasad, Its ok if performance of lpg is poor, may be the pick up is bad.

What I want to know is will usage of lpg reduce the working life of the car?

And lpg being environmental friendly, the govt may back it up with subsidy and may not see the same level of price increase as petrol. thats my concern.

what are your thoughtson this?

Im not  car crazy or speed crazy, Im just looking at value of money. Both asset cost and running cost.

please let me know.

The pick-up/acceleration will not be poor.  The power loss may be to the extent of say 10%.  It will be felt more while AC is on / full load.

Engine longevity may not be virtually affected - but to some extent in long run - would depend upon kit/retrofitment & maintenance.

Running cost on LPG, I feel, will more or less remain 30-35% cheaper than petrol.

Hi Prasanth,

Also check out the Spark LPG. I drove it myself. It has good pickup even on LPG and can change fuel modes in running (no need to stop and restart) LPG kit in spark is of highest standard. Also it is cheaper than wagon-r and has sufficient room internally.

Currently Chevy dealers are offering 40k discount on LPG models

Hope this helps

Regards,

manoj
