Just one more thing. Power & Torque ratings for:

  • Optra Magnum: 121bhp @ 3000rpm and 314Nm @ 2125rpm
  • Fiesta D: 68bhp @ 4000rpm and 160Nm @ 2000rpm
  • Verna D: 110bhp @ 4000rpm and 235Nm @ 1900rpm

I could be incorrect, but i think for optimal (or better) mileage one would be required to work between this rpm-band range. As one can see in Optra Magnum we have a lower rpm-band range between peak-Torque & peak-Power (2100 to 3000rpm) in comparison to Fiesta-D & Verna-D.  Since this range is larger for Fiesta-D & Verna-D, mileage would be better for these 2 cars.

This also means lesser number of gear shifts while in Fiesta-D / Verna-D. Not that on highway when one is cruising at 150kmph in a Optra Magnum, there would be a necessity for frequent gear shifts!! Others would be far behind. But the band is definitely narrower.

Hello sir

First i want to thank you for giving a very good note on the topic.

My budget is to spend 8-9 lacs. Maximum i can extend it upto 10 lacs. So i compared bet Verna SX with ABS and Magnum max. What i heard was Verna is against Stability that made me to think over the issue. When i change the 175/70 tyres with that of the 195/60 will i get the stability.

Instead of spending 2.5 lacs in addition i could make a simple change. Can you tell me how much it cost for changing the tyres. Plz guide me again

regards

arun

1 tyre will cost u around 2500rs & u can go to some good tyre shop & tell him that i have bought a new car & i would like to upgrade my tyre size so u can give him ur car tyre's & buy new & only give the difference.

keep in mind that he should give u the full price for ur existing tyre which company provides for eg. if new tyre cmes for 2500 & ur existing tyre costs 2000 than the diference u have to pay only is 500rs a tyre.

& just confirm this procedure with him & after taking ur car out of the showroom dont drive too much & straight away go to the tyre shop & get it exchanged so the new tyres will not get damaged.

buy bridgestone or michelin tyres.

would like to thank bhushan  the post was very informative   and helpful i think it must have sorted out all the doubts that arun has

i think   stability or grip hasnt been an issue with fiesta  and companies also advice not to tamper with tyres    isnt it and got this doubt isnt changing tyres going to affect insurance???

No, it won't affect insurance but will affect/reduce the mileage of the car - it is always prudent to stick to company recommended size.

Forgot to mention that the Optra has disc brakes on front as well as on rear wheels. That gives all the more added safety as the brakes are more effective. This would be of great help when we are talking about high speed driving. I think even the Verna-D has this but as an cost-option.

Even I upgraded Xeta's tyres with 14" alloys n bridgestone S322 tyres. I can feel the difference now with 14" tyres. Mileage... well decreased slightly.

People dont change when you tell them that there is a Better option... They change when they realise that there is No Other Option..
