I read in various reviews that Bravo will be CBU with the price range of 16-18 lacs. Recently Fiat's CEO had informed that they bring these type of products to India to show case the Fiat's expertise, design and quality of their products to Indian customers. They are not looking at selling them in good numbers.

Its a good strategy. The priority for Fiat in this market is image overhaul in light of what they and their dealers did or did not in the past, which are exammples of 'how to kill good products'. With that background, its important for Fiat. This also, at the same time, needs to be supplemented with 'Fiat exclusive' show rooms (although with Tata, there should be no stocks of Indica or Indigo cars). Coupled with these should be road shows and other activities, where their master pieces such should be show cased (Alpha Romeo to Ferrari).

Image make over will no doubt be followed with volumes. This is a phase when Fiat will have to make investments towards this objective and consolidating its position. Besides, it should look forward to exploit the Rs. 6-8 lac segment. The existing products' value proposition and prices are not optimally balanced. New Honda City is expensive for what it offers. Lines promises more than it delivers. The gorgeous exterior is not matched with the performance of the car, where it is found wanting. Hyundai is at a low ebb now.

This is opportune time for Fiat to turn around its fortunes in India.

Bravo is beautiful. It is the owner's pride. Fiat must be looking only at displaying the quality cars that it can produce by trying to sell Bravo in India as CBU. It won't stand too much of a chance at selling too many numbers at that price. Even Linea is a beautiful vehicle but I think its launch clashed with the much cheaper Xylo and that is why Linea sales got effected.

Why were Linea's sales be affeted by xylo,as the two are entirely different type vehicles(may be in the same price range),and the customers of the two have  different needs(space, etc)             (this is my personal opinion)

It is what we think we know already that often prevents us from learning.

The Fiat 500 and the Abrath version might sell at that lofty price. The Bravo(possibly the best looking supermini in the world) wont find many takers in that price spectrum.

Linea uptake hasn't been impacted by Xylo launch. They are different vehicles and do not compete with each other. Even if there is, it would not be significant and strategic for the company to take a note of.

The reasons are:

  1. Fiat does not communicate with the public and hasn't been able to instil confidence among the car buyers that their primary concern of sound after sales service and availability of spares will be addressed. This is of paramount importance but is not addressed suitably. [Services at Tata showrooms are not satisfactory (take a look at Maruti and learn from them). Car owners do not want their vehicles to be mixed up with taxis.]
  2. People carry impressions and baggaages about Fiat and all those notions need to be dispelled.
  3. Linea is drop-dead-gorgeous. There are not second thoughts about it. However, its performance does not match up the size of the car. In the petrol version, the engine needed to be some what more powerful. Fiat Petra (rechristened Sienna) has 1.6 ltr engine and delivers 100bhp. Lines should have come atleast with that. It falls short when a driver wants to accelerate. Cooling needed to be better but it falls short when compared with Petra or Palio 1.6 which was discontinued. Diesel version is a shade better in acceleration. Interiors neeed to be more sophisticated. There is a mismatch between the exterior and interior. Admiration guaranteed till one drives it.
  4. Customer looks at the overall value proposition and that is where its not been able to impact ... lets say SX4.
  5. With easy avalable finances, customers are tempted to spend a lac or little more to move to Honda City, albeit over-priced.
  6. Resale is a very important component that Fiat needs to address. They need to work out a strategy to push up resale price of their cars and communicate that to the public intelligently.
  7. Story goes on ....

Actually, they were supposed to launch the Bravo along with the 500 and had even put it up on their web site. Now they have taken it off the link but the page for Bravo India still remains -
