I am not clear about the year in which the transponder/immobiliser was present but can help you by showing the picture of key which has immobiliser

Tata Safari Immo Key

If they had this type of key then they have immobiliser inbuit in their car else their immobiliser was built in the security system/remote system which might have been by-passed

Dear Yogesh Bhai,

I have a Tata vista quadrajet abs dec 2010 model. can u please tell me which kind of engine immobiliser is used in this car and also is it beneficial to install gear lock also?

you cannot go wrong with a good old steering wheel column lock.  it will discourage people wanting to steal your car

Gautam, as per my knowledge Vista has Crypto ID 46 chips which changes its code after 'x' times ignition is turned 'ON' where 'x' is positive integer....Complicated...hmmm

Lets make it bit easy

In your car the chip is hard to crack, hard to copy (as both car and key need to be simultaneously present to make a clone). Moreover, Car's computer changes the code in key after lets say 15 times you turn your ignition ON so even if someone knows the code, by the times he gets the chance to steal the car, its very high probability that car ha changed the code which makes his effor useless..

Having a Gear Lock is beneficial but again it leads to a paradox

If you have got the gear lock installed then you'll be keeping its key in the same keyring as your Car Key. so' If you lost your original car key, You will also loose the gear lock key along with it so the person finding your key has access to both the security measures you have..so Gear Lock is useless

and loosing just one key from the set is very unlikely to happen

This leaves to only following cases, the thief doesn't have any of the key and he breaks open your car

If he doesn't know your car has an immobilizer (Very rare, Thief are also quite informed now a days), He tries to start your car, Fails, take the valuable goods from your car and leaves the car

If he knows your car has an immobiliser, either he doesn't tries or just take the valuable goods and then leaves

so even then the Gear Lock is of not much use..

I am not sure about all the Vistas. You can confirm it from showroom sales person or check whether their is a immobilizer symbol (1 triangle and 3 partial circles making a wave on one side of triangle) on it. I found having both the security measures in your car doesn't help much as from my above statement.

Its like "Law of diminishing effect/returns". The more security measures you have the less it adds on to previous security level you had..

Brother, I just hope not disturbing you up..but have a look at this...

http://www.ebay.in/itm/Mini-GSM-GPRS-SmS-Global-GPS-Tracker-Children-Pets-Cars-/310354588246?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item4842933256#ht_11564wt_905

Order this, then just put it into your car and forget those locks and all...you just need to charge it time to time ...thats it...

Hope it clicks.

Well using tracking devices like GPS is only good for the after fact (after someone stole your car).

As far as prevention is concerned, I would suggest car alarm system with a immobilizer is the best option.

With car alarm system the thief does not have too much time, if he breaks in to the car, as the alarm starts to go off.  Actully the Alarms with red blinking LED warning light on the Dash may make the smart thiefs to move to some other car.

Dear Yogesh Bhai

I am very thankful for your valuable suggestions. You have answered all of my queries regarding car security system. Thanks a lot again.
