I'm planning to buy a new diesel car, a 4-door sedan. I'm not a regular car user and will probably drive this 2-3 days a week, a distance of 50 kms each time. Would this be a problem? i have heard conflicting views - some say that a diesel car should be used regularly while others say that new technologies like CRDI don't require one to use the car on a daily basis. pls advice.

Briefly... these days diesel engines are quite refined - virtually as good as petrol ones.  It will not cause any problem if used once/twice in a week, like you propose to do.

Nevertheless, it is "better" if cars are used daily/more frequently - this applies to all cars (diesel, petrol, LPG/CNG).

certain cars have better diesel engines than petrol engines, example:verna, logan, etc,in that case people go far diesel cars irrespective of the miles to be covered, but in case of skoda cars, all diesel cars are very noisy, almost like a tractor, high NVH levels, ask some one to drive and listen from outside
