Hi,
I own a Maruti Alto Standard version. Last year I have fitted AC to my car. Now I want to fit Power Steering to my standard version alto.
I have done enquiry at Maruti Service station, but the mechanic told me that I can not fit Power Steering to this one. It surprised me little bit as engine capacity and body of all the version is almost same.
Can anybody suggest?
-regards,
Avinash A

The retrofitment of Power Steering is possible but it's difficult to have workmanship quality up to the mark.  It would be risky & unstable.  Besides, it may cost substantially, say in the range of 25-40K.  I personally feel the effort & money spent may not be worth it, and therefore, it would be prudent to drop the idea.

Also for the fact that, though Power Steering is more comfortable/required in city, one can conveniently do without it in smaller cars.  As such Power Steering (any car) becomes less effective at speed of 40/50 & more (for safety reasons).

Well... Avinash, your query somehow went unnoticed - very sorry for that.  It's an unusual thing to happen.  It was only because of the query of Mohd Arif that the thread came back in to light.

Sorry once again for the inordinate delay.

My friend had a model fitted in his STD alto. It cost him around 18k.

I guess the cost of the AC at the showroom is 22k according to him.

Hi Pankaj/Avinash,

Can you reply to my query.

regards

Arif

Oh, sorry Mohd - I misread your query on AC as if on Power Steering (like posted by Avinash).

Anyway, others have replied herein above & also in another thread - have a look.

Hi Pankaj,

What is the difference between Electronic Power Steering and Hydraluic Power steering? And which one is used in Maruti Alto LXi?
