I’m planning to buy a car my budget is around Rs 6.5 lakhs (ex showroom Delhi) (the car will be bought by the company I work for). Mostly drive in the city with around 40 Kms per day goes o around 100kms over the weekends and few trips out of town (once in 3-4 months). Usually travel with the family both over the weekends in city and on outstation trips, have a small kid, parents and a maid who travel together with reasonable amount of luggage. Currently drive a wagon R and it’s getting very uncomfortable to drive with the entire family.
Have always dreamt of driving a SUV but with the above budget the only SUV which can fit in is Tata Sumo grande. I test drove the grande twice, once the top end version where the a/c was very effective and the drive was very comfortable (found it better than the Safari which I drove subsequently) however the second time I drove the base version (since this is which will come within the budget) in the middle of the hot summer afternoon, the a/c was not at all effective, was sweating in the driver’s seat, the ride was bumpy and rather uncomfortable in both while driving and on the rear seat (middle row). The sale person informed that the car needed a service (as was also indicated on the meter) which is why the a/c was not effective and the overall drive quality was impacted. He also promised to organize another test drive, it’s been 3 weeks and still no test drive (Sanya Motors Delhi), I’m now talking to another dealer for the test drive and to take it forward.
Now my question is whether Sumo Grande is actually worth the price?? What about the after sales service of Tata (If this is the attitude before the sale don’t know what will happen afterwards)??? If there are any users driving a Tata vehicle pls share your experience regarding the after sales service. Also the only other SUV option which comes to my mind is a Mahindra Bolero, however the drive was not at all comfortable.
If not an SUV then will need to go for a sedan (SX4 /Vern/Aveo). Please advice how I can realize my dream of driving a SUV or will I still need to wait for another couple of yrs to realize the same. Don’t want to settle for a sedan.
