The price of LPG may be more or less at par with Diesel but running cost on diesel is cheaper....

LPG reduces the mileage (Petrol car), say from 14 to 12 - while Diesel cars are more fuel efficient, say they normally give 16/17 in city.

LPG Retrofitment would cost 20K extra while Diesel car would cost around 50K more than its petrol counter-part.

Maintenance in LPG would be higher than Diesel, which has only a little more than Petrol (these days).

Performance & power/pick-up would be better in Diesel while in LPG there would be a loss of same by 10-15%.  Even longevity of diesel engine is better than petrol engine & naturally than that compared to LPG Retrofited one.

I would say that people who do not mind a bit of slow pickup , should certainly go for CNG. I have driven LPG fitted  Omni, & at the end of the day do not find much of  difference in price. Specially in the car like MARUTI which always gives good milage. I see not much of a gain in fitting LPG , that too at the cost of pickup etc etc....

CNG does save lot of money friend.... I have a friend who is ready to get his CNG zen out for smallest of the reason, where we think twice before getting our petrol car on road these days!!!!!!!!!!

This is my opinion..........

True.  CNG is very economical.  It increases the mileage, say from 14 to 16 & is cheaper as well.  But it reduces the performance/pick-up by 20-25%.  CNG is normally preferred for bigger / more powerful cars, as, though the loss is same, it is felt less.

Price of Diesel at present is infact lesser than LPg.......

the only advantage wid LPg is dat ....it can offer u saving wen compared to a petrol car !......

its worth spending 20 k at times.....for example.....if the particular car has a Diesel model which is abt 50-60 k cheaper ......den one can go for the PEtrol model n get LPg retrofitted......

p.s---its just a very crude example......dnt go by this !

MAintenance of LPG retrofitted engine wud NOT b more than a Diesel Engine ..!!

bt yes..i agree the longevity shud b more.....Given that both engines are serviced on time,n used rationally !!....

true ...CNG saves alot....

bt investment us more......so we need to do Our homework by actually calculating n considering

1. ...how long r we goin to keep "this" car.

2.How much driving in a month.

3.How many trips outside the City ....(CNg isnt available outside the MEtro's)

4.Fourthly...which is also becoming a point of thought----HOw much time can we spend at the CNG line for waiting.......!!!! ....if u r REALLY lucky....it wud take u atleast 20 mins !......
